Kuvempu Kalaa Utsava - Vishwa Kannada Sammelana Abu Dhabi-2012 celebrated

Abu Dhabi, January 29: Bangalore based Vishwamanava Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Kalaniketana, in association with Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha organised the 'Kuvempu Kalaa Utsava - 2nd Vishwa Kannada Sammelana Abu Dhabi 2012' at Sheikh Zayed Auditorium in Abu Dhabi Indian School, here on Friday, January 27.

A procession with traditional drums and horns led the group of invitees from the main entrance to the hall where the programme is scheduled decorated with beautiful banner.

The programme started with lighting the lamp by the invited guests and prayer song by Divya Sharma and Group from Abu Dhabi followed by regional patriotic song by Rathnamala Prakash and Group of Bangalore who sang "bharatha jananiya thanujathe...jaya he Karnataka maate". It is said to be that the group who sang this song holds a Guinness world record for being played 3600 times in one stage.

Mangala Shetty welcomed the gathering and presented audio/video presentation on the day's programme with details of the legendary great Kannada poet Kuvempu (K.V. Puttappa).

The event was inaugurated by Sri Kumarachandrashekaranatha Swamiji in the presence of Padmashree Dr. B R Shetty, Patron UAE Kannadiga's followed by Guest of Honours, Rajannna, Senior BJP leader, Eliyas Sanctis, D. Prakash Dr. D Javre Gowda, Kannada Poet Dr.Malali Vasantha Kumar, Sarvotham Shetty and Sammelana President Dr. (Mrs) Latha Rajashekar. Other guests include Zafarula Khan Mandya, Dr. Rajashekar, Shivanand Hebbar, Srinivas Srirangam, Sachindranath Shetty and others.


D. Prakash, President of Vishwamanava Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Kalaniketana delivered inaugural address, while Sarvotham Shetty President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha gave a welcome speech and did the honours to the Sponsors.

Kuvempu Antharashtriya Manava Prashasti were honoured to Zafarulla Khan Mandya, Rajanna, Laxminarayan V.N., Elias Sanctis, Dr. B.R. Shetty and Dr. Chandrakumari B.R. Shetty, Dr. Malali Vasanth Kumar, Sarvotham Shetty, Dr. Prakash, Satish Kumar Hosmani, Shekar B. Shetty, Srinivas Srirangam, Dharmapal Devadiga, Ramesh B.V., Satish Venkataramana, D. Rajaramanna, Rathnamala Prakash, B.G. Mohandas, Shivkumar Mangdi, Shivanand Hebbar, Anil Basagi, Pravin Shetty, Ravish Gowda, Krishnappa Bangalore, N.S. Krishnappa, Roopa & G. Nagaraj. There was a book release on Ex-CM of Karnataka, S.M. Krishna by B.H. Suresh followed by special HMT watch release and 'Parisara' CD of Suresh Babu released during the function.

A janapada nrutya titled 'Jaathre' was beautifully presented followed by semi classical dance "jaya bharata jananiya thanujathe jaya hay karnataka maate" by Sri Vidya & Group excellently presented. Then was 'Kamsale' dance by Rani Abbakka Group of Dubai followed by "Hacchevu Kannadadha Deepa" solo well presented by Kumari Srilakshmi of J.M. Palya Bangalore was widely applauded.

Soon was farmers’ song melodiously rendered by Kikkeri Krishnamoorthy, Sandhya Iyer, B.N. Suresh, Roopa Upadhyaya & Savithri Bidhari Prasad of Adarsha Sugama Sangeetha Academy of Karnataka. Later Harish Sherigar of Acme Building Materials Dubai presented "Noorondu Nenepu Yedeaaladindha" & "Aaseya Bhaava" Kannada filmy songs in his melodious voice.


Film and TV artist Nagaraj Kote took the audience to the laughter world with his humours speach. Nagaraj Kote is being credited with various awards back in India and here on the stage Dr. B.R. Shetty felicitated him with garland & memento. C.R. Jadav, a well-known advocate invitee was also felicitated during the function.

There was a delicious buffet lunch served by Foodlands Hotel, Abu Dhabi with both vegetable and non-vegetable dishes including 'payasa' and 'laddu'.


Soon after the noon-break was "Shamanthaka" Kannada Yakshagana Ballet well presented by Yakshmitraru Dubai. Sri Vidya & Group presented a dance drama titled "Kuvempu Madhura Nritya" followed by another dance drama "Sathya Harishchandra" presented by Anitha Anand Kumar & Group of Sirigandha Mahila Mandali BG.

Later Literature Summit was conducted with Dr. D. Javregowda, Latha Rajshekar, Malali Vasanth Kumar, Maayi Gowda & B. H. Suresh.


Kuvempu Vishwa Kannada Ratna International Awards were presented to K. Nagaraj, Prakash Rao Payyar, Mamata, Kikkeri Krishnamoorthy, Arshad Hussain, Ganesh Rai, Arun Muthugadhur, Savitha Naik, K.R. Tantri, Chidanand Poojary, Gopinath Rao, Pratima Shetty, Jayanth Shetty, Mangala Shetty, Vishwanath Shetty, Rajesh Kathar, Anitha Anand, Ramesh, B.H. Suresh, Dr. Shanker, Bhupendra Kumar Shetty, Dr. Anil Kumar, H.N. Ramachandra, Ramanajaanappa, Jyothiba, Choodamani, Girish, Padma, Jagannath Ganiga, Gopalakrishna, D. Prakash, Sarvotham Shetty, Latha Rajshekar, Divya Sharma, Irshad Moodabidri, B.N. Shekar, Malali Vasanth Kumar, Mayi Gowda and Members of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sanga.


Sri Kumarachandrashekaranatha Swamiji was felicitated and in return he spoke few words highlighting non-resident Kannadigas who have really kept the Karnataka flag flying high up and also on the importance of our traditional values which is one of the richest tradition in the world.


Sammelana President Dr. Latha Rajashekar, a well known poetess herself has to her credit, various poems for the first time written on Lord Budha, Lord Jesus Christ, Basavanna etc gave a formal speech beautifully thanking each and every one for making the 'Sammelana' possible here in Abu Dhabi. Followed were Zafarulla Khan Mandya & the well known poet Dr. Javere Gowda an ardent follower of Kuvempu rendered brief speeches on the great national poet Kuvempu.

Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha felicitated Dr. Javre Gowda, Sammelana President Dr. Latha Rajashekar, Dr. Malali Vasanth Kumar & D. Prakash with flower and memento. The proceedings were done by Shekar Shetty, Zafarulla Khan, Sudhir Shetty & Shivanand Hebbar along with Swamiji. Media personalities were called upon and felicitated along with Satish Poojary who was elected as the new president of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha recently.

Choodamani of Dollu Kunitha Thanda Sagara presented the 'dollu kunitha' the first solo done by an elderly woman elsewhere.


Followed was 'hanigavana' chaired by Irshad Moodabidri, Arthur Pereira, Nagaraj Kote, Avanish Bhat and Arshad Hussain humoursly created and presented.

In the concluding stage, Ratnamala Prakash, Kikkeri Krishnamoorthy and group continued with melodious hair raising songs followed by guest artists Smt. Vijaya Satyanaryana from Bahrain and Anil Basagi from Muscat performing golden memories of Kannada Cinema duets titled 'amara madhura geethe'. At the end of the programme a lucky draw was conducted.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.

Global Toastmasters Club conducted Youth Leadership Program (GTC YLP– 2020), which  culminated with an extraordinary show at the Grand Finale in Puli Restaurant, Jubail, Saudi Arabia on Friday, January 31, 2020.

Toastmaster Mohammed Abul Khasim, who hails from Karnataka, Gulbarga was the Chief Coordinator for this Youth leadership program YLP, In this 10 weeks intensively focused program, the young future Leaders in the age group 13 to 15 were given quality coaching on Public Speaking, Listening, Writing, Evaluating and Life Skills, under the able guidance of Chief Coordinator.

The keynote speaker at the event was well-known veteran distinguish Toastmaster Dr R J George who motivated everyone to speak the language of love, removing all boundaries and barriers and invest on spending quality time together.

The performances of Youth Leaders were extraordinary and flawless and it was witness by top prominent figures of Jubail toastmaster fraternity likes of DTM Jamil Akhter,TM Nasiruddin Ansari, DTM Oomen Thomas, MTM Sair Oomen, DTM Hareesh, TM Amitab Serna, DTM Kotesh, MTM Shanti Rekha, DTM Suresh Kumar, TM Imtiyaz Khan, TM Asif Ali khan, MTM Farha Naved,TM Naved Hussain, Madam Sheeba, Dr Saleem Khan,TM Ashik Nazeer and TM Suhail Rais Khan. GTC YLP team thanks the Guest of Honor Mr. Abdul Majeed the Managing Director of Universal Inspection Company for sparing the valuable time as one of the sponsor of the event.

The Chief Guest at the Finale was Toastmasters District 79 Club Growth Director DTM Rami Jawad, laud the efforts of GTC for community service and urged all students to take full advantage of such chances as they present life changing opportunities, Division Direct ‘L” DTM Sadagopan address the audience and District PQD DTM Madhusha Grace the occasion. 

During the span of 10 weeks, more than 40 senior member of Jubail Toastmasters fraternity contributed to the success of this program as one to one mentors, Workshop Presenters and Assistant Coordinators. DTM Uzma Siddiqui, DTM Aziz Ahmed Siddiqui, DTM Safare Mohammed, DTM N V Arasu and DTM Jeyasankar and DTM Asif Ali Siddiqui, led the team of Toastmasters as overall Program Advisors, MTM Samina Mazher was chief judge for the event.

The grand finale saw four absorbing contests in Table Topics, Evaluation Speech, International Speech and Debate conducted by YL Ayesha Safare, YL Sai Pranav, YL Mohammed Saad and YL Fawaz Kannan respectively and YL Jaweriya conducted the banner parade.
Maliaka Maryam won the first prize in International Speech, while the second and third were earned by Mohammed Saad and Mohammed Umair. The Table topic contest was won by Ahmed Khan, where Jayveer Prajapati and Fawaz Kannan stood second and third respectively.

Sreena Nanda Kumar won evaluation Speech Contest, while Mohammed Sufyan and Sai Pranav stood second and third respectively. In Debate contest the team speaking against the topic represented by Hasib Javid, Muzaffer Shaik and Nabil Bin Tasnim stood first and runner team was represented by Sarah Nasir, Fathima Badruddin and Shanum Rabia . Hasib Javid was declared the best debate speaker.

The first term President Sarah Nasir and second term President Mohammed Ahmed Khan started the program with their presidential addresses after the Surah recitation by Nabil BinTasnim. YL Jumana Jaffer & YL Arman Raiq Siraj hosted the finale as Master of ceremonies. Immedate past Youth leaders and assistance Coordinators and workshop presenters Jaweriya Mariyam and Ayesha Safare conducted the award ceremony, while DTM Safare Mohammed handled contest operations.

Global Toastmasters President DTM Khalid Siddiqui and YLP Chief Coordinator TM Mohammed Abul Khasim thanked all Youth Leaders, Parents Sponsors and Toastmasters for their contribution in making the program successful. 

Past President of Global TMC, past Area63 Governor and first ever Joint Division E & L conference chairman Mangalorean DTM Shameer Ahmed Kudroli congratulated the Chief Coordinator Mohammed Abul Khasim for the effort and dedication to make the event a grand success and his journey to accomplish the DTM title soon.

Riyadh, Jan 28: The celebration of the 71st Republic Day was held on January 26th by the Central Committee of the Indian Social Forum Riyadh at the Ramada Hotel Auditorium in Riyadh. People from different Indian states and different religious backgrounds were present during the event.

The program was inaugurated with the unity song, Saleem Moulavi– Regional committee member India Fraternity Forum/Riyadh inaugurated the program.

Social Forum Central Committee president Janab Harris Mangaluru chaired the program and welcomed the guests. In his presidential speech he described and uncovered stories of freedom struggle and participants of Indian Muslims for the freedom fight. He urged everyone to fight against unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Bill which passed by Centre government. He said that the We will continue its agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the NRC and would not relent unless the Union government withdrew the Act.

Indian Social Forum Karnataka State Committee member Janab Mohammed Naveed delivered the Republic Day message. He said India was formed based on concept of ‘unity in diversity’ and it becomes every Indians’ responsibility to safeguard it. He expressed concern over CAA, NRC and NPR. Across India, students at other universities are against the Citizenship Amendment Act passed by Centre government.  The law offers amnesty to undocumented migrants from three neighboring Muslim-majority countries but only if they are non-Muslim. Critics say that by excluding Muslims, the law establishes a religious test for Indian citizenship, in violation of the secularism enshrined in India's constitution. The Indians, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and region have firmly resolved to oppose the draconian laws and fascist moves to debar the poor. Constitution granted to every person and citizen of India who are not ready to put them on a test of ideology of RSS and programs of BJP to implement the Brahmanist mind-set. He said that the police atrocities against CAA/NRC/NPR protesters had increased only in BJP-ruled States and  there were several loose ends in the police story about the incidents leading to the firing.
