Tulu Siri inaugurated in Kuwait

Kuwait City, February 13: ‘Tulu Siri’ the first ever Tulu teaching class in Kuwait was inaugurated amidst great enthusiasm and excitement. Tulu Siri has been received with great pride, in the Tulu Speaking Community. The excitement of the children, who came along with their parents to enroll themselves, was a treat to watch.

The word Siri means sprouts in Tulu language and as the word goes the main purpose of the association is to instill Tulu speaking knowledge in our sprouts, in our children, so as to pass on our cultural heritage to them. The committee members have worked very hard towards achieving their objective of promoting Tulu language and culture. The in-charge of the Class is TharendraShettigar and the teacher is Shalini Vijay assisted by Jaya V Karkal, Suresh Salian, Vanitha Dias and Mable Rosario.

The event held at the Indian Public School was hosted very efficiently by Suresh Salian. Baby Aishwarya K Bhat and IshanBhat beautifully welcomed the audience with a Welcome prayer. The Chief Guests for the event were Smt Usha Shetty, the principal and owner of the Salmiya Play School and Sister Lenitta Lobo, from Carmel School, Kuwait. The chief Guests along with the Class Teachers Shalini Vijay and Jaya V Karkal started the event with the lighting of the lamp.

Usha Shetty, in her speech said that Tulu is a very sweet language and it gives us great sense of satisfaction and bonding to speak to our children in our mother tongue. She also felt proud to be inaugurating the Tulu teaching classes.

Sister Lenitta Lobo, spoke great words of inspiration. She said that it is our duty to let our children learn Tulu, as it is only Tulu language that unites all people of Tulu Nadu under one umbrella irrespective of our religion. She said that she felt great pride to be talking on the inaugural day and urged people to let this beautiful language build a bridge between us and not allow it to build a wall. She asked us to unite for one religion and that is the religion of Love.

Tulu Koota Kuwait Advisors, Sudhakar Shetty, Vivek Rao and Satishchandra Shetty also spoke great words of encouragement. They believed that the Committee Members have indeed shown great initiative to carry forward our motto of “Unity through language”.

Ramesh Kidiyoor, the President of the Association, elated with the beginning of the unique Tulu Classes and appreciated the effort of Committee members who worked for this. He thanked the parents for their interest and urged them to show continuous support in this noble venture. Tharendra Shettigar, the Vice President of the Association, in his speech exhibited faith that this sprout will one day nurture into a big tree.

The logo, designed by Manoj Kumar depicts the SIRI and the book with TULU SIRI written giving out rays of knowledge. The Banner was printed by Adrian Pais and attractively decorated for the inauguration by Ronald D’Souza and Jaya V Karkal. White House Restaurant served a sumptous breakfast for the invitees and children. Tulu Koota Kuwait also distributed inaugural gift bags to the children. The event came to an end with a Vote of thanks from the General Secretary, Sathyanarayana Salian.

The organisers have urged the parents to send their children to Tulu Siri and encourage them to speak the language of unity – the Tulu.

Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Central Committee, Saudi Arabia organized Republic Day program at AlRyan Policlinic Restaurant Auditorium, Dammam on 25th January 2020.

Abdul Waris, Former Chairman of Indian International School Dammam Inaugurated the program.

Wasim Rabbani, president of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Central Committee Presided over the program.

Mansoor Shah KFUPM, Indian Social Forum Delhi Zone President, Dr. Fayaz Ahmed from King Fahad University Hospital, Amir Moulavi, Executive Member,  India Fraternity Forum (IFF) Dammam, Nasir Koduvalli, Indian Social Forum, Kerala State President, Dammam, Sharief, Social Forum Karnataka State President, DammamJahangir Moulavi, Tamilnadu State president delivered speech at the program. Mohammed Firoz, Indian Social Forum  President, Jubail read the preamble of constitution. 

 Nameer Kerala , Secretary, Social Forum Central Committee welcomed guests while Ashraf Karnataka, General Secretary, Central Committee delivered vote of thanks and Tahir Hyderabad, Secretary, Indian Social Forum, Central Committee coordinated the program.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.
