FEEL NRI Conference 2012 recognizes prominent NRIs

Kuwait, February 16: The NRI Conference 2012 held in Kuwait on February 9 and 10 has recognized four prominent Indian nationals in the Middle East based on their leadership efforts aimed at enhancing life situation of Non Resident Indians and for their time and resources contributed to uplift the poor and downtrodden in the community.

The Conference, first of its kind in the Middle East was organized by the FEEL (Foundation for Enhancing Expatriate Life, an independent initiative of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) to discuss issues related to expatriate Indians in gulf countries mainly their concerns on saving and investment opportunities.

According to FEEL, the recognition award, titled as FEEL NRI Jewel Award was established to honor those NRIs who have provided significant community and public service to the Indian Diaspora in the Middle East. By honoring those who have worked selflessly for NRI causes and India, we are providing exposure of such role models to the next generation, the press release issued by FEEL said.

The awardees included Padmashree Dr. B.R. Shetty, Managing Director of NMC Group, United Arab Emirates, Padmashree Dr. Azad Moopen, Managing Director of DM Foundation, Padmashree Dr. C.K. Menon, Chairman and Managing Director of Behzad Group of Companies, Mr. Sunny Mathews, Managing Director of Sefeena General Trading and Contracting Co., Kuwait.

M.M. Hassan, former Non Resident Affairs Minister of Kerala was awarded with NRI Sahakari Award. Mr. Hasan in his role as a Minister and as a social leader was one of the key personnel in establishing a separate department and ministry for dealing with NRI affairs. He was also the Chairman of the first ever NRI Conference held in Kuwait.

A special recognition award was presented to Nandakumaran P., the Managing Director of State Bank of Travancore for his support and participation in the NRI Conference.

The awards were presented jointly by M.M. Hassan, Satish C. Mehta, the Ambassador of India to Kuwait in presence of a large number of community leaders and conference delegates. President Abdul Fatah, KKMA’s CFO Mohammad Ali Matara, General Secretary A.P. Abdul Salam and convener Rajan Rawther decorated the Awardees with “ponnada”.

Riyadh: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day of India, Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN on the 17th Jan 2020 at KING SAUD Universities King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. 

This is one of KWARs Prestigious Humanitarian EVENT every year, as we are indebted to serve the society for a Great Cause.

The campaign began at 08:30 am with a theme of Republic Day Celebrations and went on till 3:30 pm. Irrespective of Friday being a weekend and holiday people came in good numbers to donate Blood. The Hospital Staff, The Doctors and the Blood Bank Technicians and others at King Khalid University Hospital were more than happy to serve all those who have participated in this campaign.

KWAR Thanks all the Hospital Staff especially Mr. Salman Baqsh for his introduction of KWAR to Blood Bank and all the arrangements for this campaign, without his support this could not been done. Dr. Zafar Mahmoud for his wonderful support during the campaign and Mr. Abdullah Al Saman for his outstanding Hospitality throughout the campaign. KWAR also thanks all the donors who came all the way voluntarily for this Great Humanitarian Cause. As a token of gesture KWAR awarded Certificate of Appreciation to all the participants.

And KWAR would like to thank specially Mr. Nasir, Representative of Blood Helpline Karnataka, who encouraged many donors and made them to actively participate and donate blood for this noble cause.

KWAR’s core activities was on display on the screen, with most of the Committee members were present at the venue to serve the donors. KWAR thanks all the members, the Executive committee and all those who took their valuable time to organize this event successfully and thank all our well-wishers who supported us for the BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN. We in KWAR wish every Donor and the participants a healthy life ahead, and we need everyone's active participation in all our Future events.

Dubai: Karnataka Sports & Cultural Club (KSCC) distributed Eid Kit across the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah to the ) needy people on Eid al Fitr.

KSCC President Mr. Mohammed Ismail Said: “Eid is a Symbol of Gratitude and Unity. As the last few weeks have been hard for each one of us, we wanted to stand in solidarity to celebrate Eid, by helping labours and needy people. He also said that “We are together to be part of UAE. Serving these meals is our core social responsibility."

KSCC recently conducted humanitarian services during COVID-19 pandemic in 2 phases and conducted Blood Donation Drive. They have also planned to conduct next Blood Donation Drive on 25th May, 2020.

The KSCC main objective is to develop the expatriate community into a well-nourished section of society in the areas of social, sports and cultural activities.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.
