Anti-dowry awareness fortnight gets underway in Dubai

Dubai, May 30: With a determination to make Muslims of coastal Karnataka, a dowry-free community, an anti-dowry campaign is being organised by the UAE unit of Karavali Welfare Association (KWA) under the theme “Say No to Dowry; Save Community”.

The 15-day long campaign got underway at Indian Islamic Centre Auditorium on Deira Mutheena Road, Dubai recently.


Inaugurating the programme Moideen Kutty Kakkinje Dibba said that giving and accepting the dowry, both are anti-Islamic acts.

Launching the campaign symbolically by releasing the invitation cards of the campaign, Abdurrasheed Zaini Al-Kaamili said that the evils of dowry cannot be eradicated through mere speeches and write-ups.

“Our marriage system should be transformed from extravagance weddings to simple. We should prohibit luxurious weddings”, he said.

Chief guest Sayyid Asgar Ali Thangal Kolpe said, “We should create awareness against dowry among community members.

Zainul Abideen Wafi also spoke on the occasion. C H Hameed Kapu, Abdul Khader Haji Baithadka, anti-dowry activist Zaheer Shah Puttur were present.

The programme was started with the recitation of verses from holy Qur’an by Jafar Savanoor. General Secretary of KWA Muhammad Unais welcomed the gathering. Shaikuna Mahmoodul Faizi Olemundovu offered Du’a and presided over the programme. President of the Association Niyaz Miyandad proposed vote of thanks while Rifayee Goonadka compered the programme.

The valedictory of the campaign will be held at Mutheena Indian Islamic Centre Auditorium in Dubai on June 8. On the occasion, several social and religious leaders will deliver talk on the topic, 'Oppose dowry - save community'.

Meeting
In a meeting held later in the evening dignitaries including Abdussalam Puthige of Varthabharathi Kannada Daily, Kasim Ahmed of Hidaya Foundation, Moideen Kutty Kakkinje, Asgarali Thangal Kolpe advised the members of KWA on how to eradicate this menace.

Kuwait City, Aug 9: Indian social forum organised Blood Donation Camp in association with central blood bank kuwait on Friday, 7th August 2020.

The forum organised camp to support the high demand of blood in the context of COVID-19.

All arrangements to maintain COVID-19 protocol were made in the camp including segregation of donors as branch wise batches along with strict safety measures of participants.

Forum also had donated blood to many patients during the lockdown period. 

Hundreds of people donated blood in the camp. The camp organised in Blood Bank, Jabriya was successfully managed by Dr. Asma Rafat and leaders of Indian social forum Vice President Aslam, Secretory Sayyid Bukhari Thangal, Moideen Koya, Khaleel, Aseem, Mohammed Sha, Shihab, Naushad,
Indian Social Forum expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, staff and management of blood bank, forum’s members and donors.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.
