Riyadh, June 1: As many as 250 took part in the Karavali Koota, the fifth annual general meeting of Karavali Welfare Association, Riyadh (KWAR) was held here recently.
The day-long programme began with versatile Parvez Ali welcoming the members and guests. President Ramesh Shetty spoke about the Association and thanked all his executive members and office-bearers for the great efforts and cooperation extended during the entire year in all KWAR activities.
General Secretary Rajesh Kumar presented a Powerpoint programme highlighting the objectives and achievements of KWAR and spoke in detail of all the activities carried out during the year by way of charity, donations and plans for the future. He also stressed the importance of KWAR motto ‘Unity is our Strength’. Treasurer Jayanth Salian read the financial report of the year giving complete details with transparency.
KWAR's existing committee was dissolved and a new 43-member committee was formed which included several new faces. Fresh elections to the new office-bearers were conducted. Election officials founder president Vijay Rai and Nazeer Ahmed conducted the elections for 2012-13.
The proposal in favour of Royston Prabhu as new president went unopposed and he was unanimously elected president of KWAR for 2012-13. Parvez Ali was elected vice president, also unanimously. He gracefully accepted the decision of the members.
Muzzaffar Ali who has always been a strong supporter and member of KWAR in all its activities became the natural choice for the post of general secretary. Many members voluntarily came forward to offer their time and services to the cause of KWAR.
The association feels encouraged that this understanding among members will take it to greater heights. Bhaskar Salian was chosen sports secretary and Eric D'Sa cultural secretary.
Spot games, tombola and a skit formed part of the programme. The highlight of the day was the ‘Halli Cricket’ tournament which became an instant success with 8 teams participating. The winners were ‘Jolly Cricketers’ and runners-up ‘SCFC’. Trophy was handed over by new president Royston Prabhu.
The women's wing headed by team leaders Ms Jayanth Salian, Ms Suresh Suvarna and Ms Rajesh Rao in their own way kept the children busy with different activities and games. As promised by KWAR, a donation of Saudi Riyals 2000 was handed over to Naushad of ‘India Fraternity Forum’ by former president Ramesh Shetty. IFF is spearheading a legal battle to get released one Ayoub, who has been wrongfully jailed in Jeddah.

Annual General Body Meeting of KWAR
May 25, 2012, Riyadh: Karavali Welfare Association, Riyadh (KWAR) held its 5th Annual General Body Meeting on Friday the 25th of May 2012 under the theme “Karavali Koota”. It came as a surprise to the organizers to have a gathering of over 250 people.
It was a whole day programme for all members and their families which began at 9am with breakfast followed by lunch and snacks.
The proceedings began with the versatile Mr. Parvez Ali who welcomed all the members and guests. The President, Mr. Ramesh Shetty spoke about the Association and thanked all his executive members and office bearers for the great efforts and cooperation extended during the entire year in all KWAR activities. General Secretary Mr. Rajesh Kumar presented a Power Point programme highlighting the objectives and achievements of KWAR and spoke in detail of all the activities carried out during the year regarding charity, donations and plans for the future. Election Commissioners, Mr. Vijay Rai, founder President assisted by Mr. Nazeer Ahmed conducted the elections for the current year 2012-13.

It was the turn to elect the Vice President and the entire gathering with a thunderous applause had only one name that was of Mr. Parvez Ali. He gracefully accepted the decision of the members. Mr. Muzzaffar Ali who has always been a strong supporter and member of KWAR in all its activities became the natural choice as General Secretary. It could be noticed from the gathering the enthusiasm and willingness to participate. Many members voluntarily came forward to offer their time and services to the cause of KWAR. Popular portfolios such as Sports were bagged by Bhaskar Salian, and Eric Dsa was elected as Cultural Secretary.
After Lunch various cultural activities were held such as Spot Games, Housie and a Skit by Mr. Eric Dsa and team. The newly elected office bearers and committee members were formally inaugurated at a dinner function held at Bharath Restaurant on 29th of May.
