Kashmir XI clinches Dopco Summer Cup-2012

Jeddah, June 20: Kashmir XI beat Targetguys Cricket Club by six wickets to claim the Dopco Summer Cup-2012 here recently.

Electing to field first Kashmir XI restricted Targetguys to only 48 in eight overs. In reply Kashmir XI reached the total in 5.1 overs losing only three wickets.

Openers Mansoor and Ali scored 22 and 15 runs respectively. Imran of Kashmir XI was named the man of the match in the final.

Earlier in the semifinals, Targetguys Cricket Club and Kashmir XI won over ATS and Habeeb XI respectively. This was the second straight flood-lit Targetguys Cricket Club tennis ball cricket tournament mainly sponsored by Imran Mansha Khan of Bobby XI.

Sixteen teams took part in this event. Mr.Bobby of Bobby XI and Mr Habeeb of Habeeb XI were the chief guests at the prize distribution ceremony.

Mr. Abdul Salim Gani, coach and coordinator of Targetguys Cricket Club Jeddah, thanked the guests, participating teams, sponsors and others who contributed towards the success of the tournament and also committed to conducted a Mega Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament in Football Green Grass Stadium soon.

Runner-up trophy was awarded to Targetguys Cricket Club. Best Batsman was Aftab of ATS. Best Bowler was Kashif of Kashmir XI. Best Fielder award was bagged by Fazil of Kashmir XI. Best Wicket Keeper was Chemmi of Targetguys. Man of the Series return Air Ticket sponsored by Attar Travels Jeddah was bagged by Abdul Sattar of Targetguys. Former Sri Lankan commentator M.M.M.Naushad presented live commentary throughout the tournament.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.

The Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), Bahrain, has charted aircrafts to repatriate stranded expatriates to India. 

Boby Parayil, General Secretary, OICC National Committee, Bahrain has thanked all those who supported in this cause.

“The aircrafts were not licensed and were in crisis until the last minute. Finally, Mohammed Mansoor, president of Bahrain chapter of Indian Overseas Congress approached IOC Middle East in charge Dr Arathi Krishna, who helped get permission to operate flight to Kozhikode,” he said in a release. 

All mandatory approvals from the Foreign Ministry of Affairs and other government officials were accomplished by Dr Arathi Krishna. OICC has expressed gratitude to her for her timely support, he said. 

OICC is also grateful to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy for doing necessary arrangements to get all the approvals for flight landing in Kerala, he added.

Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.
