Shiruru Association launched in Dubai; Syed Ibrahim elected president

Dubai, June 26: Shiruru Association, a congregate of people of Shiruru, a small coastal town of Karnataka, came into existence on June 22. It was inaugurated at a simple program held in Bangalore Empire Hotel in Karama, Dubai.

Immediately the very first objective was completed and an Ambulance vehicle was presented by DINA School for Children with special needs.

Noted businessman Mohammed Mustafa, Director of M Square Engineering Co., Mohammed Yahya Qaji, Dr. Hasan, Syed Abdul Khader of Green Valley Educational Institutions of Shiruru, businessman Vinay Kumar Shetty were present on the dais. President of the newly formed committee Mr. Syed Ibrahim presided over the function.

The programme started at around 7 pm with welcome speech by Sharath Ram Shetty. Bhagya Sadan Das compered the programme.

The banner and the logo of the Shiruru Association also launched on the occasion in the presence of committee members and guests.

Speaking on the occasion Mohammed Mustafa confirmed his support for the objectives of the Association. He said that it was the duty of every expatriate to respond to the problems of his or her hometown.

Mohammed Yahya Qazi said urged the youth, who have good jobs to extend helping hand towards their hometown.

Emphasising on the importance of education he said that the educational institutions deserve support.

Dr. Hassan said that the education is the real wealth. Association should work to provide education to every needy child in Shiruru, he said.

Vinay Kumar Shetty said: “The moment we hear Shiruru, we imagine national award winner Narayana Shetty and Green Valley Institution, which has highlighted the name of Shiruru in national level. However, Shiruru still lacks basic amenities, and with all our support we could attend to at least few of them. Today we have planted Shiruru Association, I wish this will grow as a big tree.”

Syed Abdul Khadir, Managing Trustee of Green Valley Educational Institute announced that an ambulance with all necessary medical facilities shall be donated to DINA School for Special Education and Rehabilitation, Shiruru, free of cost. However the daily maintenance costs have to be borne by the patients. He also announced that drinking water facility has been established by DINA school and all people of Shiruru are welcome to get a free connection.

It was Joy Fernandes, who organized few games for children and competitions for spot prized throughout the program. Many prizes were won by the lucky few, but Samad Mandu was the luckiest person. He won the grand prize of 32”LED TV by the raffle draw.

After the raffle draw, President of Shiruru Association, Syed Ibrahim said Shiruru is still lagging behind in development. “We all must provide whatever possible from our side, instead of completely relying on government”, he said.

He said that one of the main objectives of the Association was to congregate the people of Shiruru in Dubai. It takes regular supply of water, light and fertilizer for the seed to grow into a tree. Similarly, it needs your cooperation, support and mainly participation for the Association’s growth, he said.

He said that serving the hometown is the prime inspiration to start the Association.

Objectives of the Association are as follows;

1) Creating unity among the people from Shiruru in UAE

2) Providing necessary information and possible help to deserving youth from Shiruru in getting better jobs in UAE.

3) Providing assistance and counsel to the people of Shiruru so that they can solve their problems themselves for a better life

4) Providing necessary financial help to those deserving people from Shiruru during emergencies like loss of job, death etc.

5) Creating an atmosphere of one family among all people from shiruru during an annual congregation, thus promoting brotherhood, unity and secularism.

Shiruru development plans:

1) Planning to provide a much needed Ambulance vehicle for Town's Hospital.

2) Providing financial assistance to those eligible students who could not otherwise continue their higher education.

3) Planning to build a new hospital with all modern facilities and amenities.

4) Creating harmony, peace and brotherhood among the all groups of society of Shiruru.

5) Keeping in constant touch with the responsible officers and representatives of government to maintain uninterrupted regular daily services like drinking water, street lights, cleanliness, good roads, bus services, electricity etc.

6) Extending helping hand to the educational institutions in Shiruru to improve educational system in whatsoever manner possible.

7) Planning, discussing and executing the plans for Shiruru development which are vital but had no attention yet.

8) Initiating a feasible system to promote hygiene and cleanliness in the town

9) Felicitating one person from Shiruru on their most deserving bestow during annual congregation.

10) To start a separate wing for women so they can also participate and serve in Shiruru's development.

11) To appoint a deserving candidate to pay utility bills, arranging repairs etc for deserving homes in Shiruru.

12) Encourage students for better education with suitable prizes for high scorers in the annual exams.

13) Supporting at least two students from primary and high schools with highest scores with scholarships for higher education.

Abu Dhabi: Yogish Prabhu K is the newly elected president of Abu Dhabi’s prestigious India Social & Cultural Centre (ISC) and he will serve for the period 2020-2021. ISC’s annual general body meeting and Election for 2020 were held on Thursday, February 27 and the election results of the election were announced during the early hours of Friday, February 28th morning.

In the keenly contested election, Yogish Prabhu emerged victorious. Humble origin and hailing from a small town of Karkala from Udupi district of Karnataka state has never deterred him from setting challenging goals. He belongs to a well-known Gouda Saraswat Brahmin family of K.V.Prabhu Coconut oil mill in Karkala. He is the eldest son of Late Rtn. Krishna Prabhu and Rtn. Bharati Prabhu.  His father and grandfather were freedom fighters who left a profound impression on him and their ideology “serving people is like worshiping God” (Jana seveye Janardhana seve) inspired and guided his life ever since. Prabhu has been a privilege member of ISC since 2003 and has been actively involved in ISC activities throughout. His relationship with ISC spans over 2 decades during which he has immensely contributed in many ways to ISC and the Indian community at large. A banker by profession, Yogish Prabhu is currently working as Vice President, Group Finance & Treasury, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB).

With some new initiatives in his mind, Prabhu wants to creatively improve the quality of ISC’s services, its humanitarian impact as well as the diversity of its membership. His intentions are always to help everyone irrespective of caste, creed, religion, language or status. As a new elected President of ISC, Prabhu’s main objective is to strategically plan and implement his vision through his ABC 5 Year Plan i.e.,

A-    Accountability & Transparency,

B-    Build a Sound Financial Plan and

C-    Compassion & Affection for the needy

so that ISC is recognized not just in UAE, but worldwide as a mascot of the great Indian community.

Prabhu thinks “as individuals, we can do only so much but with the support of Elected ISC Committee members and all the ISC members together, there is no limit to what we can achieve, and in the process, we can truly transform the ISC”. He proudly says, “I have a strong treasury management experience in ISC as well as in the bank which we need now more than ever”.

With his dynamic leadership, sheer dedication and ambition, ISC will definitely be scaling new heights of glory and prestige in Abu Dhabi and beyond. His humble nature, leadership qualities coupled with his rich administrative experience will surely help boost ISC’s popularity and meet its challenging goals and can serve people in a better way and contribute to the Indian community at large.

Yogish Prabhu has been married for 28years. His wife Chethana Prabhu Kasaragod too has been equally active in ISC and continuously supporting and participating in various sports, entertainment and literary committees throughout these years. She became ISC Women’s Forum Convener in 2016-2017. Their daughter, Aarti Prabhu is an IT Engineer from NITK Suratkal, working in Bangalore. Son, Ajith Prabhu finished his Masters in Mechanical Engineering and Management in Industrial Design in Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK and at present doing his internship there. Both Aarti and Ajith are alumni of Abu Dhabi Indian School and both have represented National level CBSE Badminton meet. Also, Aarti was a Gold medalist in the school for scoring 100 in Mathematics in SSLC.

Following are few of his contributions and achievements:

•          Hon. Asst. Treasurer of ISC for consecutive years from 2005 till 2007

•          Hon. Treasurer of ISC in 2011.

•          Member of Finance Committee of ISC new infrastructure and premises from approval till completion.

•          In 2016, initiated the participation of ISC members as officials for International Yoga Day organized by Indian Embassy

•          In 2017, initiated the participation of children as officials to help the organizers so that children could learn their social responsibility and become good citizens.

•          In 2012, initiated ladies throw ball tournament in ISC and now it is extended to men too.

•          Member of IPEF since its inception in 2014. Also served as its Governing board member in the same year.

•          Founder member of ‘UAE GSB group’ since its formation in 2004

•          Committee member of ‘Gandhi Sahitya Vedi’ Abu Dhabi

•                    Treasurer of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha

•          Head of Finance and member of other committees of ‘World Tulu Convention’ held in Dubai - 2018

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
