BCF raises educational scholarship fund for over 400 students

Dubai, August 8: Around 700 nonresident Indians and philanthropists got together at the ‘BCF Iftar Party-2012’ organized by the Bearys Cultural at the Sudanese Social Club Hall in Dubai, UAE.

The event, in which several prominent leaders of Beary community took part, started with the Quran recitation competition for children below 10 years judged by several learned Ustads. The Qirat competition was organised by Tanveer and Ibrahim Dubal. After the competition, Ustad Abbas Manjanadi delivered a talk on the importance and benefits of Ramadan.


After the Iftar Party, scholarship contribution function was conducted. Mr. Tanveer recited the Quranic verses while Dr Kaup Mohamed welcomed the gathering.

Abdul Lathif Mulky, the Chairman of the BCF Iftar Committee conveyed his Iftar wishes.

Addressing the gathering Dr. B. K. Yusuf, the President of the BCF, requested the audience to donate generously for the noble cause of education to the poor people.

Dr. Yusuf also congratulated and thanked the rulers of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates for the holy month of Ramadan and their support given to the expatriate population in the UAE.

He applauded Mr. M.E. Moolur for his task done during the scholarship meet. He also applauded the Chairman of the Iftar Committee Mr. Abdul Latif Mulky, his co-associates Mr. Saleem Althaf, Mr. Khaleel Basha, Mr. Afeeq, Mr. Ameeruddin Medicari, Mr. Ameeruddin SI, Mr. Rafique Mulky, Nafees Group members, Mr. Kisar, Mr. Parvez Zakaria, Mr. Sajpa, Mr. Nawaz Kotekar and Mr. Ashraf Satikal among others.

Mr. Shabeer Hussain, CEO and Director- International Sales, IFCO and Mr. Praveen Shetty, Chairman and MD, Fortune Group of Hotels, were the special guests of honor.

Mr. Shabbir Hussain conveyed his best wishes to all the members of the BCF for doing this great job of arranging scholarship to the poor people of the State of Karnataka. Mr. Praveen Shetty said that he was very overwhelmed to see this gathering and also said that his support to the BCF will definitely be there for the upliftment of the poor people. Moreover, other guests included Mr. Abdul Jabber Mulky, Mr. Abdul Hameed Gantalkatta, Mr. Kader Bajpe and also committee members on and off the stage.

Dr. Kaup Mohamed, the General Secretary, who made the scholarship contribution announcement said informed that large number of students have applied for scholarship in various categories such as PUC, B.Com, BSc., Diploma in Engineering, B.E., Diploma in Finance and Accounting, BCA, BBM, MBA, MSW, Diploma in Education, Journalism, Islamic course, MBBS, BAMS, BDS, MSc, Nursing Course etc.

He said that more than 5000 applications were received every year from the poor people of the coastal Karnataka, out of which selected 400 students are normally given scholarship every year. Dr. Kaup also mentioned that the scholarship this time will go to all the communities of the coastal Karnataka.

Several people who attended the Iftar Party committed their contribution for providing scholarship to the poor people. Mr. Hassan Darwish, the Chairman of the Darvish Group of Companies, UAE has given a commitment to adopt around 8 to 10 poor and deserving students of the coastal Karnataka and provide scholarship until they complete their studies.

Mr. Praveen Shetty and Mr. Shabbir Hussain wholeheartedly donated towards educational scholarship for the poor students. The BCF has also placed on record the immense contribution made by its Patron Mr. Thumbay Moideen, the President of the Gulf Medical University, Dr. B.K. Yusuf, Mr. Razak Dewa, other BCF Committee members and several other donors from the Beary community.

The Ladies wing of BCF also collected scholarship amount. Several ladies members generously contributed to the scholarship work. BCF is expected to provide educational scholarship to more than 400 students on 26th August 2012 at the St. Aloysius College Hall, Mangalore.

Riyadh: Cricket Lovers are all geared up for the newly launched franchise based tournament - Kingdom Premier League (KPL) 2020 under the banner of Mangaluru Cricket Association (MCA) Riyadh.

SAQCO –SAAD AL QAHTANI CONTRACTING is the Mega Sponsor for the event and PARAMOUNT is the CO Sponsor.

The 6-team tournament is being played at MCA Grounds on Exit 18 in Riyadh beginning from 14 Feb and shall end on 20 March.

The Opening ceremony took place on AL-Mas Restaurant in Riyadh. The trophy launching as well as Jersey launching took place at the same event. Guests from various companies including SAQCO were present.

All teams will play at least one league Match against every other team. Top 4 teams in the table will qualify to play for the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator. The Winner of Qualifier 1 will be heading towards the final and the 2nd finalist will be the winner Qualifier 2 (Played between loser of Qualifier 1 and Winner of Eliminator). Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.
