Riyadh: Seven Star Mulki emerge champions of RAISCO Trophy-2012

Riyadh, October 5: The Seven Star Mulki emerged champions of the Raisco Trophy, a 10-over hard tennis ball knock-out cricket tournament organized by Friends Padubidri, Riyadh, and sponsored by Raisco Group of Companies, Riyadh.

 

The tournament was held at Badiyah grounds, Riyadh, from September 14 to 28. As many as eight teams from the coastal Karnataka took part in the tournament, with the matches being held every Friday morning.

 

The teams that qualified for the finals were Seven Star and Bhankal Sports.

 

Bhankal Sports won the toss and elected to field first in the final match which held on September 28. Seven Star scored 74 runs in allotted 10 overs. Shamsu – 23 runs was the main scorer from Seven Star.  Ansaf took 3 wickets (hat-trick) from Bhankal to restrict Seven Star to post a total score of 74 runs on the board.  The chase was again lead by Ansaf of Bhankal, who scored 26 runs, but finally they were short of 11 runs to reach their target. Seven Star clinched the Raisco Trophy beating Bhankal Sports by 11 runs on the final day of the tournament.

 

The fantastic performance given by the players of both teams indeed proved to be an eyeful and thoroughly enthralled the cricket loving fans and viewers in the ground.

 

Soon after the final match, there was prize distribution Ceremony. In addition to the Friends Padubidri Members, the other eminent personalities who came as guests to witness the final match were; chief guest- Abobakker Padubidri, the owner of RAISCO Group, Younus, the captain, Mangalore Kings Team, Nazeer Ahmed, Manager, Jolly Boys Team, Farooq, Manager, Padubidri Friends Cricket Riyadh.

 

The following players and teams received glittering trophies from the organisers for their outstanding performances:

 

Man of the Match – Shameer - Seven Star

Best Batsman – Shamshu – Seven Star

Best Bowler – Ashfaq – Seven Star

Man of the Series – Mutalib Shirva - Bhankal  Sports

Runners up Trophy – Bhankal Sports

Winners Trophy – Seven Star

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.

The Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), Bahrain, has charted aircrafts to repatriate stranded expatriates to India. 

Boby Parayil, General Secretary, OICC National Committee, Bahrain has thanked all those who supported in this cause.

“The aircrafts were not licensed and were in crisis until the last minute. Finally, Mohammed Mansoor, president of Bahrain chapter of Indian Overseas Congress approached IOC Middle East in charge Dr Arathi Krishna, who helped get permission to operate flight to Kozhikode,” he said in a release. 

All mandatory approvals from the Foreign Ministry of Affairs and other government officials were accomplished by Dr Arathi Krishna. OICC has expressed gratitude to her for her timely support, he said. 

OICC is also grateful to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy for doing necessary arrangements to get all the approvals for flight landing in Kerala, he added.
