Kuwait City, May 7: A public programme on ‘Importance of Education in Islam’ was organised by Indian Muslim Association (IMA) in cooperation with Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs at Jamiyatul Islah auditorium at Rawda.

Speaking on the theme of the programme, Maulana Hafiz-ur Rahman from Islamic Education Society, Kuwait quoted several verses from the Holy Qur'an and narrated instances that stressed on the level of importance Islam placed on seeking knowledge and spreading it. “To seek knowledge and to spread it is a sacred duty which is obligatory to every Muslim. The first word that was revealed in the Quran was ‘Iqra’ which means ‘read’,” he said, advocating the message of seeking knowledge.

Defining knowledge as identifying the signs of our creator, he listed out several inventions that were taught by Islam in ancient periods, which science identified only recently. He said that the current education system which is based on Western influences was the root cause of spiritual degeneration among Muslims throughout the world. “There is a need to rebuild the educational system on a foundation that fulfills our spiritual as well as worldly needs and to reconstruct the social order in accordance with the tenets of Islam,” he said.

Syed Ifthekar Ahmed, HR Manager, Al Mulla Group made a presentation on ‘Important Guidelines for Higher Education of Children’, enlightening the parents on various fields which hold great opportunities in the future.

The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Abdul Rahman. It was convened by Abu Ala Shaheen, who also made the introductory remarks. Mohammed Ali from Masjid Kabir was the chief guest for the programme. Members from the Urdu-speaking Indian community in Kuwait, including women and children, attended the programme.
