GSB UAE Talent Day 2013 held in Dubai

Dubai, May 18: The GSB Community UAE organized its Annual Talent Day Programme recently at the Emirates English Speaking School-Auditorium, Al Safa, Dubai. Competitions were held for children and adults in different categories, which saw outstanding participation.

Amchi family, Sub-junior fancy dress, Amchi Chef, Junior category-Jodi Dance, Dramebaaz, Clay modeling, Senior category-Jodi dance, Dramebaaz, Amchi Idol, Abstract painting, pot painting, adult category-solo, duet and dramebaaz competitions were held.

The audience enjoyed the adorable fancy dress by the little ones, themed dances, melodious singing, humorous dramebaaz by adults and kids, beautiful craft work and painting, and of course lip smacking cuisines by Amchi chefs.

The competitions were anchored by children, who without any stage fear took the audience through a memorable journey.

The child anchors were Kriti Kamath, Vibha Kamath, Neha Prabhu, Ritika Nayak, Arjun Kamath, Amay. S.Shenoy, Ameya Mallya, Hamsika Shanbhag, Anurag Kamath, Riya Shenoy, Pratiksha Prabhu, Shweta Pai, Unnati Nayak, Aniruddh Pai,  Vindhya Pai, Prerana Pai, Anisha Nadkarni, Nikhil Pai and Meghana Bhat.

This year, keeping in mind the concept of networking, teamwork and community oneness most of the competitions were jodi or team competitions.

The talented women of the community, displayed their creative artwork made at home, in the “Talent Corner”, an area designated for display of art work at the event. This area was adorned with craft work that included items like embroidery done by Shantha Pai, an 80-year-old senior lady, baskets, glass painting and many more such items. The audience enjoyed and appreciated the work of art by all these talented ladies of all age categories.

Felicitation

Prerana Pai, (daughter of Harish and Ragini Pai) recipient of Shaikh Hamdan Award for distinguished academic excellence was felicitated jointly by the President Shailesh Shenoy and Dayaram Pai a senior citizen from the community. On behalf of the community the President congratulated Prerana on her achievement and  applauded her for making the entire community proud.

Dr. Janardhan Shenoy, a 60-year-old senior member from Abu Dhabi, was also felicitated for his enthusiasm and continuous participation in the various competitions of the community year after year. His performance and participation has set an example projecting that participation is what matters and not winning or losing. The children and adults thoroughly enjoyed his enacting of Mera Nam joker in Konkani.

The events were ably judged by Suman Bhat,  Nirmala Kamath, Anuradha Kamath, Satyen Babla, Shruthi Kamath, Abhay Singh Chauhan, Monica Valdar, Sadhana Mallya, Sangeeta Mallya, Vidya Rao, Sujatha Bhat, Sabita Shenoy, Prabhakar Kamath, Ramesh Avadhani, Narasimha Kudva, Gopi Kamath, Rinki Duragkar and Sangeeta Shenoy .

The day long function started with a prayer by Mohan Kamath. The secretary of the GSB UAE, Sunil Shenoy started the day’s proceedings. GSB UAE President Shailesh Shenoy, welcomed the audience and thanked the parents and the participants for their active participation. Pragati Shenoy then introduced the judges for the first competition of the day. There were a record number of 132 entries for the 15 different competitions that were held under four categories viz. Sub Junior, Junior, Senior and Adult.

The GSB UAE Vice-President Dr. Sandeep Mallya proposed the vote of thanks.

The Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), Bahrain, has charted aircrafts to repatriate stranded expatriates to India. 

Boby Parayil, General Secretary, OICC National Committee, Bahrain has thanked all those who supported in this cause.

“The aircrafts were not licensed and were in crisis until the last minute. Finally, Mohammed Mansoor, president of Bahrain chapter of Indian Overseas Congress approached IOC Middle East in charge Dr Arathi Krishna, who helped get permission to operate flight to Kozhikode,” he said in a release. 

All mandatory approvals from the Foreign Ministry of Affairs and other government officials were accomplished by Dr Arathi Krishna. OICC has expressed gratitude to her for her timely support, he said. 

OICC is also grateful to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy for doing necessary arrangements to get all the approvals for flight landing in Kerala, he added.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.

Jeddah: The first chartered flight for repatriation passengers from Jeddah to Bengaluru organized by Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah – Saudi Arabia was successfully landed at Bengaluru airport by 01.00 am on 19th July 2020.

Spice Jet (SG9884) departed from King Abdul Aziz International Airport Jeddah by 05.00 pm local time with 177 stranded passengers which includes 12 Pregnant Woman, 3 infants, 44 Short term visa holders, 3 medical emergency patients and 115 migrate workers and labours from various districts of Karnataka state.

Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah, a registered charitable organization under Government of Karnataka & Indian Consulate Jeddah - Saudi Arabia, helping the Kannadigas overseas & in Karnataka State as well, has initiated major role for helping stranded Kannadigas to travel back to home. During Pandemic hundreds of stranded Kannadigas were approached to the forum and requested to arrange special chartered flight to Bengaluru from Jeddah.

Initiating from collecting the data of passengers, the forum’s special panel including its President Mr. Mohammed Mansoor, Secretary Mr. Peter Mascarenes, Vice Presidents Mr. Nasir Khurshid, Dr.Ashfaque Maniyar, Chief Coordinator Mr. Shaikh Saoud, Cultural Secretaries Mr. Arifulla Shariff and Mr. Rajesh Suvarna, Treasurer Mr. Habib Rahman and Press Secretary Mr. Baig, the forum’s members have worked very hard to conclude this task very successful. 

The forum provided food packets as refreshment, complementary PPE kitsto each passenger as precaution against the spread of any infections while travelling and also guided all passengers by supporting them in Awdha portal (Saudi Passport Department) and Seva Sindhu portal registration of Government of Karnataka.

The official travel partner ITL Travel Management Company has rendered remarkable service to the passengers not only in ticketing but also supported with top priority in confirming the aircraft from SPICE JET and availed good service from ground staff at Jeddah Airport. 

All passengers have reached safely to their homes after completing the 7 days institutional quarantine at Bengaluru. 100% passengers had NEGETIVE report on Covid-19 test made on arrival as well as after institutional quarantine. 

In the press release published from the President, Mr. Mohammed Mansoor has expressed his prodigious gratitude to the Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia H. E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Deputy Consul General of India - Jeddah Mr. Y Saber and Chief Minister of Karnataka State Shri B. S. Yediyurappafor providing necessary approvals and NOC for the chartered flight operation. He also conveyed his boundless appreciationto Shri B. Y. Raghavendra, Member of Parliament Shimoga District (Karnataka) for his swift support extended to the forum and as well to Dr. Aarathi Krishna, Ex-Deputy Chairperson – NRI Forum of Karnataka – Government of Karnataka for her significant guidance and support on completing this mission.

The forum has thanked all the officers in King Abdul Aziz International Airport Jeddah and Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru for the facilities provided to the passengers. The Forum has thanked all passengers travelled for their calmness and also thanked to all other members of the forum, Staff of ITL Travels and SPICE JET for their tremendous support extended throughout the mission accomplishment.
