Kuwait City, Jul 13: Indian Muslim Association (IMA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs organized a public lecture on the importance of Ramadan at Masjid Yousef Al-Adsani, Kuwait City

Well-known scholar Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rahman spoke about how to spend Ramadan. He said that Ramadan is a month of charity; He reminded the hadith of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) that providing food for someone to break his fast can be a reason for his sins to be forgiven. He said that Ramadan is the month of Quran, and this month should help us in inculcating the Quranic teachings in our lives. He emphasized the need for introspecting the changes Ramadan brings in one’s life. He said that fasting should be filled with enthusiasm and belief and should not be just a tradition.

He said that the main purpose of Ramadan was to attain “Taqwa”, which is a quality in a believer’s life that keeps him/her aware of Allah at all times. A person who has Taqwa loves to do good things and to avoid evil for the sake of Allah. Taqwa is a piety, righteousness and consciousness of Allah. Taqwa requires patience and perseverance. Fasting teaches patience, and with patience one can rise to the high position of Taqwa.  He quoted that the Prophet (PBUH) has said that fasting is a shield. It protects a person from sin and lustful desires.”  He also reminded that Allah doesn’t require the fasting of a person who doesn’t stop lying. He concluded by saying that we should make our Iftar simple and instead utilize the time in prayers, and pray for people facing hardships across the world.

Maulana Mohammad Taher Madani, one of the Islamic Scholar from the Indian sub-continent explained the importance of Zakath.

He said Zakath brings the blessings of Allah and helps in restoring social justice by ensuring that the wealth is not concentrated only in the hands of the rich and powerful. Zakath not only helps the poor, but also helps reduce selfishness and encourages living for others.

Shiekh Abdul Hamid Jasim Al Bilali was the chief guest of the function. He said that Ramadan is a gift from Allah, successful people take advantage of this gift and unsuccessful people waste this gift. He said that Ramadan reminds us the hardship of the people who are hungry and appeals us to help them. A book of his by the title “Al Rabbaniathu wa Rabbaniyoon” was also released on this occasion. The programme was convened by Mushtaq Mehdi.

IMA Joint Secretary Mr. Iqbal Ahmed was also present in the dais. Large number of expatriates participated during the occasion with their families.
