Tulu Koota Qatar holds annual blood donation drive

Qatar, Oct 5: The Annual Blood Donation Drive of Tulu Koota Qatar received a huge response on Friday October 4 2013 at Hamad Medical Corporation, Blood Donors Unit.

Around 350 expatriates attended the noble activity while a record number of 60 members were able to donate blood after routine checkup.

Dr. Arjun Shetty addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of donating blood.

The President of Tulu Koota Qatar Seetharam Shetty welcomed the gathering and M. Iqbal Manna of Special Needs proposed vote of thanks. M. Ravi Shetty compered the event.

ICFB Officials Milan Arun, Ramachandra Shetty, Habibul Nabi, Karnataka Sangha President Deepak Shetty, KMCA President Niyaz Ahmed, SKMWA President Ibrahim Byari, Billawa Sangh President Divakar Poojary, KTWA President Ashmath Ali, Bunts Qatar vice President Prakash Chandra Ajila, Senior Citizen Syed Abdul Hye, Toasmasters Rammohan Rai & Rehman Saab, former President of Karnataka Sangha Mannangi, Mumtaz Hussain, Managing Director of Benchmark, Senior officials of Tulu Koota Qatar and several prominent members of Indian Community attended the programe.

The committee also extended its gratitude to Mr. Mohammed Saleem, Managing Director of Team Engineering and M. Ravi Shetty, Managing Director of ATS for arranging their employees to join for the noble activity by attending and donating blood.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) organized Blood Donation Camp at Latifa Hospital, Oud Mehta Dubai on April 23rd, 2020 in association with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and with support from Community Development Authority (CDA) Government of Dubai.

Blood Donation Drive started in the morning at 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Around 48 people participated in this drive and donated blood to support the Dubai Blood Bank.

A potential shortage of blood for transfusions has been occurred due to a significant reduction in voluntary blood donations during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic, health services are now running with shortages of blood availability. To support the DHA Blood Bank KSCC taken initiative to ensure that blood donations continued and are safe for both the donor and the recipient.

After taking safety precaution and safe distance during the blood donation donors feeling happy and honored to participate and donate blood at this pandemic situation. Club Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi was also present during this event.

KSCC appreciated all the blood donors and be grateful to Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Community Development Authority (CDA), and Government of Dubai for their association for this event. They also thanked the volunteers and supporters.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.
