India crush West Indies by an innings and 126 runs in Sachin Tendulkar's last Test

New Delhi, Nov 16: Sachin Tendulkar got a fitting farewell in his last Test as India crushed the West Indies by an innings and 126 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.tendulkar

Tendulkar has now won each of his last competitive cricket match be it ODI, T20, Ranji, IPL or CLT20.

The West Indies lost their ninth wicket when R Ashwin trapped Shane Shillingford plumb in front of the wicket.

Pragyan Ojha registered a five-wicket haul by trapping West Indies captain Darren Sammy plumb in front of the wicket by an arm ball.

The West Indies lost their seventh wicket when R Ashwin trapped Shivnarine Chanderpaul plumb in front of the wicket.

Pragyan Ojha dismissed Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle and Narsingh Deonarine to bring India closer to victory.

Pragyan Ojha struck in the fifth over of the day when he had Marlon Samuels stumped by captain MS Dhoni.

Ojha induced Samuels out of his crease with a flighted delivery but it spun away past the flashing blade and Dhoni had ample time to take off the bails.

The day's play started with Chris Gayle and Samuels resuming the West Indies second innings, facing the prospect of an innings defeat.

Tendulkar may have missed out on a fairytale hundred on Day 2, but there were two young Indian batsmen who managed to notch three-figure scores.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma showed that the future of India's batting was in good hands. Pujara played a big one for the first time in this series, setting himself up mentally for the tour of South Africa that lies ahead. Sharma took off from where he had left in Kolkata, adding meat to the restored reputation and further cementing his spot at No. 6 in the Indian team.

The two centuries were scored in contrasting styles. In the morning, when Pujara resumed at an unbeaten 33, the West Indies pacers - Tino Best in particular - showed renewed energy running in with the ball. There was pace to counter and Pujara did well, staying around, getting his runs and not let the momentum break with Tendulkar batting at the other end.

Sharma was a little more prolific. He got his 111 not out off 127 balls, with a life when batting on 85. Caught at long on off Shane Shillingford, Sharma was on his way back to the dressing room when umpire Nigel Llong stopped him to check if the ball was legitimate. It wasn't as the off-spinner was guilty of overstepping by quite a distance and his innings resumed from where it had paused.

Laced with 11 fours and three sixes, he took on the West Indies attack and did a VVS Laxman by playing expertly with tailenders, and got to the landmark. He now has a whopping 288 runs in just two Test innings.

New Delhi, May 14: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an unconventional and unique leader, whose biggest strength is his incredible gut feeling, says his Chennai Super Kings teammate Faf du Plessis.

The former South Africa skipper has spent considerable time with Dhoni after joining the Indian Premier League (IPL) side in 2011 and has been an integral part of its successful journey.

"He reads the others player really well and he uses that to make instinctive decisions on the field. He's got an incredible gut feeling on the game and I think that's his biggest strength," du Plessis said in a Facebook live session with Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal.

The 35-year-old said Dhoni changed his perception of how a captain should be.

"It was amazing for me to see how different M S was as a captain. I used to think a captain must speak all the time in team meetings etc but M S was completely different.

"He doesn't believe a lot in team meetings. He's a very instinctive captain he's got such a good cricket brain that he relies on it to make the right decisions on the field," du Plessis said of former India skipper.

Dhoni last played for India in World Cup semifinal last year and was expected to be back to playing competitive cricket at now-postponed IPL.

Calling Dhoni the best finisher he has played with, Du Plessis said no one can emulate what the dasher from Ranchi can do with the bat.

"He's extremely calm. I haven't played with someone who is a better finisher than him. It's just remarkable to watch him from the side of the field."

"If someone else tries to do it like him they won't be able to. He's just so unique like he times the ball so late he's got an incredible calmness. He knows his game and he picks a bowler and goes for it."

Du Plessis said that playing for CSK alongside Dhoni and under the guidance head coach Stephen Fleming has taught him a lot about leadership.

"I'm lucky to have started my journey there at CSK because I have really learned a lot from a leadership point of view. I tried to learn as much as possible from Dhoni and Stephen Fleming because both are great captains."

New Delhi, Aug 5: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Bollywood celebrities have taken it to their social media platforms to express their excitement and shared their thoughts.

Taking to Twitter handle, senior Bollywood actor Anupam Kher extended his best wishes to his legion of followers for the Ram Janmabhoomi Pujan.

While 'Masti' actor Riteish Deshmukh, on the micro-blogging site tweeted multiple hashtag 'Jai Shree Ram' to mark the historic day.

'Queen' actor, Kangana Ranaut's official Twitter handle team wrote: "What could not happen in 500 years happened this year.... this is not picture of the day but the moment of many centuries #JaiShreeRam #RamMandirAyodhya"

Actor Kirron Kher, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, filmmaker Ashok Pandit and others also marked the day and expressed their excitement.

Earlier, evergreen star Hema Malini, through an audio recording congratulated the devotees of Lord Ram on the occasion.

The Mathura MP expressed her excitement on the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the much-awaited Ram Temple.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the special Bhoomi Poojan at Ayodhya ahead of the foundation stone laying ceremony.

He also released a commemorative postage stamp on 'Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir'. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had offered prayers at the Hanuman Garhi Temple in Ayodhya.

New Delhi, Jun 3: Shuttler HS Prannoy has hit out at the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and has questioned the selection criteria for the Arjuna Award.

The shuttler has said that the players who have won nothing have been recommended, while the players who have medals to their credit have been snubbed.

His remarks come as BAI recommended doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and men's singles player Sameer Verma for the Arjuna Award on Tuesday.

"Same old story. Guy who has Medals in CWG and Asian Championships not even recommended by Association. And guy who was not there on any of these major events recommended #waah #thiscountryisajoke," Prannoy tweeted.

Prannoy had been left out from the list last year as well and the shuttler had slammed the criteria then as well.

"If you ever want your name in the awards list, make sure you have people who will get your name to the list. Performance is least considered in our country. Sad state of our county but can't help it. Let go and just play until you can," Prannoy had tweeted last year.

Prannoy had won the mixed team gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and he also has a men's singles bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Championships.

On Tuesday, the BAI has also recommended the renowned National Institute of Sports (NIS)-certified coaches, S. Murlidharan and Bhaskar Babu for the Dronacharya Award.

Murlidharan has been working relentlessly for the growth and development of the sport in Kerala, besides being an able administrator.

He has coached the likes of Vimal Kumar, Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas amongst many other renowned former players.

He has also been a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award given by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in 1996.

For the Dhyanchand Award, BAI has recommended the names of Pradeep Gandhe and Manjusha Kanwar.

Gandhe is a two-time Asian Games bronze medallist while Manjusha is a South Asian Games silver medallist.
