Jeddah, Dec 5: Forty-four major Saudi companies have only managed to fill 811 out of 2,758 jobs on offer at an employment fair organized by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).
A report prepared by the RCCI reportedly revealed that the companies could not fill all the vacancies because too few unemployed citizens turned up.
The lackluster turnout came despite the jobs meeting the standards of the RCCI’s human resources committee.
A total of 1,947 jobs remain vacant despite an extensive advertisement campaign that preceded the recruitment drive.
The Human Resources Development Fund has urged jobless Saudis to register with the organization and apply for the positions.
The RCCI’s jobs fair had run for three days and offered jobs with salaries ranging from SR5,000 to SR15,000, two days off a week, medical aid and an attractive working environment, according to reports.
The companies included Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd., Almarai, Al-Rajhi Bank Inc., Rajhi Takaful Inc., Yamama Cement, Arabian Oud Company, Al-Safi Danone, Saudi Oger Limited, Abdullatif Alissa Automotive, Nadec, and Gulf Food. There were other major firms from housing, investment, energy and other sectors also offering jobs.
