Not concerned about 'Mohenjo Daro' criticism: Hrithik

August 5, 2016

New Delhi, Aug 5: The trailer of "Mohenjo Daro" may have become a butt of jokes online and made historians cringe, but lead star Hrithik Roshan has brushed away the negativity saying the film will silence critics after its release.

HrithikThis is not the first time Hrithik's film has been accused of distorting historical facts.

His 2008 film, "Jodhaa Akbar", also directed by his "Mohenjo Daro" helmer Ashutosh Gowariker, was initially slammed for being historically inaccurate but that did not stop it from becoming box office success.

"I am not concerned about it (negativity around the trailer). This current situation reminds me of a time when Twitter was not there but when I played Akbar, I was in the spotlight right from the release of the first trailer.

"People said what I did was wrong as Akbar was only four feet ten inches tall, while I am over six feet. Also that I had light eyes, which Akbar did not," Hrithik said.

"People raised several objections about the film. And now who remembers that? They have all forgotten about it. Now when you talk about 'Jodhaa Akbar', you say how great the film was and how well it did."

The 42-year-old actor says the historians, who have raised objections about usage of lip colour on women, to the use of horses in certain scenes, are least of his concern as they are not the people who will go and watch the film in theatres on August 12.

"They are not our fans, who will go to cinemas to watch the film. These historians are voicing their opinion, they have no bearing on the film being good or bad. "They are talking about how they can have lipsticks but people of the Indus Valley used to crush rose petals and put it on their lips. Our film is fiction mixed with facts."

Hrithik says "Mohenjo Daro", which also features newcomer Pooja Hegde, is a simple love story set in the backdrop of the Indus Valley civilisation.

"It is a love story, a revenge drama in the backdrop of Indus Valley. It has not been made to teach people about Mohenjo Daro. It is like 'Titanic', which was not about how the ship works, it was about a love story with Titanic as the backdrop. That is where we are coming from."

"Mohenjo Daro" is Hrithik's second historically-themed film after "Jodhaa Akbar" but the actor says his upcoming movie was way more difficult to work on as it involved shooting in harsh conditions of Bhuj in Gujarat.

"It was in a lot of way tougher than 'Jodhaa' because of the setting we were put in, long hours on the sets in Bhuj. It was quite tiring."

Praising his co-star Hrithik says he was surprised to seen how confident the actress was right from the time of their first photo shoot for the film.

"The shooting conditions were tough but Pooja was unfazed. She gave her shots naturally and spontaneously. If it was my first film, I would go home, I couldn't have done it. She is very hard working."

"Mohenjo Daro", also stars Kabir Bedi, Arunoday Singh, Suhasini Mulay and Nitish Bharadwaj.

Washington, Jan 11: Fresh off his win at the Golden Globes, actor Joaquin Phoenix participated in a climate change protest and was arrested by the police.

The "Joker" star took part in the weekly protests against climate change, started by Hollywood veteran Jane Fonda.

According to Variety, the 45-year-old actor also addressed the crowd of close to 300 people.

In his short speech, he took aim at the meat and dairy industry for being the third leading cause of the climate crisis.

"Sometimes we wonder what can we do in this fight against climate change, and there is something that you can do today and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume," Phoenix said.

"There are things I can't avoid. I flew a plane here today, or last night rather, but one thing I can do is change my eating habits," he added.

Besides Phoenix, veteran Hollywood star Martin Sheen also turned up for the protest and got arrested by the police. Actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Susan Sarandon were also present.

Capitol Police said it arrested 147 people who were charged with crowding, obstructing or incommoding. All the protestors were later released.

She has been protesting weekly as part of her "Fire Drill Fridays" initiative since announcing she was moving to Washington "to be closer to the epicenter of the fight for our climate." Her participation has ended in multiple arrests.

Earlier this month, Phoenix had talked about climate change at the Golden Globes ceremony, asking Hollywood to walk the talk on the issue.

Mumbai, Aug 6: Taking over the case of the controversial death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the CBI on Thursday registered a case naming six persons, including his actress-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family members.

Besides Rhea, others named in the FIR are her family members Indrajit Chakraborty, Sandya Chakraborty and Showik Chakraborty as well as his house manager Samuel Miranda and the actress' manager and publicist Shruti Modi.

The registration of the case came a day after the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has asked the CBI to take over the case following a reference from the Bihar government.

The entry of the CBI will not be to the liking of Maharashtra government, as it has already raised objection to the move, saying Bihar does not have any jurisdiction for a probe, as the incident happened in Mumbai.

The CBI has invoked charges related to criminal conspiracy, abetment of suicide, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement, theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation against those named in the FIR.

The case will be probed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Superintendent of Police Nupur Prasad. DIG Gagandeep Gambhir and Joint Director Manoj Shashidhar will supervise the investigations.

The CBI FIR is based on a case registered by Patna Police on a complaint filed by the actor's father Krishna Kishore Singh, who accused Rhea and others of abetting Sushant's suicide and misappropriating his assets. The Patna Police had invoked sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and abetment to suicide among others.

The 34-year-old actor hailing from Bihar, known for his stellar performance in Kai Poche and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story among others, died by suicide on June 14 in his apartment in Bandra in Mumbai on June 14. Mumbai Police has registered a case and had been investigating various angles when Sushant's father also registered a case in Patna against Rhea and others.

The case ran into controversy as Mumbai Police and the state government questioned the locus standi of their Patna counterparts with one of the senior Bihar Police officers who landed in Mumbai was sent to quarantine by state authorities.

Sushant's death had raised shackles with several actors and others questioning the nepotism in Bollywood after it emerged that he was under depression as he was not getting his due in the film industry.

It also assumed political colours with a section alleging that top Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's son Aditya Thackeray, also a Minister, has links to the incident. Aditya has denied any links.

BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, had demanded CBI inquiry in the case.

The Bihar government acted fast in referring the case to the CBI, as the state was going to Assembly elections later this year and there was anguish among people over the state.

So far, Mumbai Police have recorded statements of 56 people, including Rajput's sisters, Rhea, and others from the film industry, after registering an Accidental Death Report (ADR).

The Enforcement Directorate has earlier registered a money laundering case against Rhea and others on the basis of the FIR filed by Patna Police. The agency on Thursday quizzed Miranda while it summoned Rhea for questioning on Friday.

Earlier, Rhea had approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case registered by Patna Police to Maharashtra. In her plea, she had said that she was in a live-in relationship with Sushant from a year up till June 8 when the petitioner had temporarily shifted to her own residence in Mumbai. She has been in deep trauma due the death of the actor and moreover getting rape and death threats.
