February 28, 2014

Aamir_politicsKochi, Feb 28: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan today said he is not shying away from politics, but that he was not interested in it.

"I am not shying away from politics. I am not interested in politics. I am interested in touching people's heart," he said responding to a query in this regard.

"People enter politics because they want to serve the country and serve the people. There are many other ways of doing it," he said. "Actors have a huge role to play. We bring joy to people. we give joy, we bring laughter, colour in their life...," he said.

Aamir said the responsibility of those in the entertainment industry is to bring grace to society and build its moral fibre. That was the role of a creative person.

"I feel very proud of what I am doing," he said at a press meet in connection with the TV show 'Satyamev Jayate', the second phase of which will be aired from March 2.

"In India we are constantly looking at a messiah. Our country will finally change when we believe each one of us is a messiah. That is the central thought of a democracy.

"We have to look for stregnth from within us in a democracy. I do not believe in looking at anyone else," he said when asked who would be a better candidate for the PM's post Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi.

"Society changes when society takes a turn," he said. Season 2 of the show would be an "eye opener" in many ways, he said, adding "this journey has been exciting. I feel very enriched having met amazing people. I realise there is so much to learn from them... the kind of heroism I find in people who have no wealth, no political power.."

On the allegations against Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt levelled by a former devotee in a book, he said he was not aware of it. "When we select topics for our show, no matter what tpoic we take, people will oppose it. But any kind of pressure...we will not give in..," he said.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal, brand ambassador of the show in the South, said he had been keen to do a similar show years ago in Malayalam, but it did not take off due to some restrictions from the actors' association "This show has lot of positive energy. It is a very sincere approach to the problems of the common man," he said.

Mumbai, May 12: Superstar Salman Khan on Tuesday released his latest romantic single "Tere Bina" featuring Jacqueline Fernandez while in quarantine at his Panvel farm house.

The actor, along with close family and friends from the industry, including Iulia Vantur, Waluscha De Sousa, is living in the farm house. This is the second song Salman has released amid the coronavirus pandemic, after "Pyaar Karona."

"About seven weeks ago, when we came to the farm, we didn't know we will be here under a lockdown. So we wanted to do things to keep ourselves busy. That's when we decided to do these songs. We launched 'Pyaar Karona' and now, we are launching 'Tere Bina'," Salman said in a statement.

The song, sung and directed by Salman, is composed by his friend Ajay Bhatia and written by Shab bir Ahmed.

The actor said he had the song "Tere Bina" with him for quite a while but because it wasn't fitting into any of his film, he decided to release it now.

Jacqueline said she didn't think they would be able to shoot the song, which they finished in four days of evening shoots, with such limitations.

"We are used to shooting songs on a large stage with grand production costs. There are costumes, hair, make up. All of a sudden, we find ourselves with a team of three people. For the first time, I was checking lighting and moving props around. It was a great experience and it taught us how to make the most of what we have," she said.

Salman recently sent out food packets and ration from his farm house to those affected by the lockdown.

New Delhi, Jun 22: Amidst a strain in the ties between India and Nepal, actor Manisha Koirala, a Nepali national, on Monday urged people of both the countries to be not "aggressive and disrespectful" towards each other.

Koirala, a leading Bollywood actor of her times, took to Twitter to request people to let the respective government resolve the issues and stay "civil."

"A heartfelt request please let's not be aggressive and disrespectful..we are in this situation together..our respective Gov's will resolve the issue. In the meantime we can be civil ..I remain hopeful," she tweeted.

Earlier last week, Nepal 's Upper House of Parliament endorsed a proposal to discuss the Constitution amendment bill to update the country's map that incorporates parts of Indian territory.

Nepal's House of Representatives had on June 10 endorsed a proposal seeking consideration of a constitution amendment bill for change of country's map after a lengthy discussion. Nepal has made offers to India to hold "diplomatic talks to resolve the territorial issue" between the two countries.

New Delhi has said that the updated map is "not based on historical facts and evidence" and termed the claims by Nepal as artificial enlargement.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava also said that the move is violative of the current understanding to hold talks on outstanding boundary issues.

New Delhi, Jan 9: A Delhi court Thursday directed the makers of the Deepika Padukone starer feature film 'Chhapaak' to give credit to acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s lawyer in the movie.

Additional Civil Judge Pankaj Sharma said it was necessary that advocate Aparna Bhat's contribution is acknowledged.

"This Court is of the considered view that facts are indicative that the plea of the plaintiff for interim injunction is well-founded and it is necessary that her contribution be acknowledged by providing on the slide on the actual footage and the images, the line 'Aparna Bhat continues to fight the cases of sexual and physical violence against women' during the screening of the film.

"The said line on screen maybe with a rider that the same is with the court order," the judge said.

Advocate Bhat filed the application saying that despite representing Agarwal in courts for several years and helping in the movie-making, she was not given credit in the movie.

She said the filmmakers took her help in the entire process of writing and shooting the movie, but did not give the credit.
