NRC is the only option to 'save' Bengali Hindus from Bangladeshi Muslims: RSS

Kolkata, Sept 18: It is imperative to implement a citizen list, similar to Assam's National Register of Citizen (NRC) in West Bengal, to save Bengali Hindus from being annihilated, claimed Jishnu Basu, the Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS) West Bengal Secretary.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Basu claimed that due to rampant infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims in West Bengal, Hindus in several districts of state are becoming minorities.

"The NRC is the only option to save the Bengali Hindus from annihilation from the state of West Bengal. Because of the infiltration, the demography of the several districts has changed in the last few decades. And if try to save the Bengali Hindus then NRC is the only option, otherwise the Bengali Hindus will become refugees and will be forced to migrate from West Bengal," Basu told ANI.

Basu also asserted that the NRC will also prove beneficial for Hindus who were tortured and forced out of Bangladesh.

"Bengali Hindus who have migrated to India from Bangladesh after facing a lot of atrocities, who have seen their mothers and sisters getting raped and their relatives being murdered, will be benefitted by the Citizenship Amendment Bill," he said.

He also underscored that the implementation of the NCR will also weed out elements, which threat the national security.

"Bordering districts are the most affected. This also involves national security. If you see the Bardhaman blast case, the person responsible for it, Shakeel Ahmed, was a Bangladesh infiltrator. So to save our country we need to stop such infiltrators, as they also put security of our country under threat," he said.

Basu said that the RSS is making small groups to make people aware about the benefits of the NRC.

"We have made small groups and now are making people in the bordering district aware about the NRC and Citizen Amendment Bill. We are trying to propagate this idea. We would like to make people aware. Also, we would try to send the message across the bureaucrats , the decision makers , the elders so that they can understand, the usefulness of NRC and the fact that Citizen Amendment Bill is the only option to save Bangladeshi Hindus who were forced to come to India," he said.

"We are a social organization, we can only spread the awareness, so that people make the demand for the same," he added.

New Delhi, Jun 19: India on Friday added 13,586 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in a single day, pushing the tally to 3,80,532, while the death toll rose to 12,573 with 336 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

In some positive news, the number of recoveries crossed the two lakh-mark and stands at 2,04,710, while there are 1,63,248 total COVID-19 active cases, according to the updated official figure at 8 am.

One patient had migrated.

"Thus, around 53.79 percent patients have recovered so far," an official said.

The total number of confirmed cases include foreigners. 

India registered over 10,000 cases for the eighth day in a row.

Of the 336 new deaths reported till Friday morning, 100 were in Maharashtra, 65 in Delhi, 49 in Tamil Nadu, 31 in Gujarat, 30 in Uttar Pradesh, 12 each in Karnataka and West Bengal, 10 in Rajasthan, six in Jammu and Kashmir, five in Punjab, four each in Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, three in Telangana, two in Andhra Pradesh and one each in Assam, Jharkhand and Kerala.

Dubai, Jan 9: A roadshow promoting Gujarat as an education hub of India will be held here from January 17, officials said.

Representatives of 22 universities and four colleges from Gujarat will be part of the two-day event organised by the Indian Consulate in Dubai.

"The roadshow will provide a glimpse of the thriving education sector in Gujarat and enable the interested candidates to get a first-hand understanding of the rich resources of the state in order to pursue higher education," according to a statement released by the Indian Consulate here on Wednesday.

A delegation led by Gujarat's Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama will take part in the event under the 'Study in Gujarat' campaign, the statement said.

The Principal Secretary of the state's Higher and Technical Education, Anju Sharma, will participate in the roadshow, which will conclude on January 18.

The participating educational institutions include Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gujarat Forensic Science University, Nirma University, LD College of Engineering, Gujarat Arts and Science College, Vishwakarma Government College and SAL College.

"In the last decade and a half, Gujarat has been successful in establishing its identity as the leading educational hub of India. State of the art infrastructure, safe environment, curriculum at par with international standards and industry exposure gives students an edge during the course of their study," the statement said.

New Delhi, May 30: The COVID-19 pandemic has left the Indian private healthcare sector in acute financial distress, a new survey said on Friday adding that the healthcare facilities in the country have witnessed at least 80 per cent fall in average revenue.

Post the lockdown from March 24, Indian hospitals have seen a large impact, especially among small and medium-sized hospitals, which are now facing existential challenges.

The survey by healthcare industry body NATHEALTH was conducted in 251 healthcare facilities across nine states and 69 cities to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the domestic healthcare industry.

The findings showed that 90 per cent of the surveyed healthcare facilities are facing financial challenges with 21 per cent facilities facing an existential threat.

"There is a need for a stimulus package to revive the Indian healthcare industry which will be crucial to provide much-needed relief to the healthcare sector which is the frontline defence in this fight against COVID-19," said Dr Sudarshan Ballal, President NATHEALTH.

According to the survey, hospitals in tier 1 and tier 2 cities are experiencing a 78 per cent reduction in OPD footfalls, and a drop of 79 per cent in in-patient admissions.

The study found that 90 per cent of organisations require some form of financial assistance.

The findings indicated that even after the lockdown lift, the situation will remain difficult for the hospitals and nursing homes as patients will hesitate from visiting hospitals.
