NRI, returning home after 32 years, dies at Abu Dhabi airport

Abu Dhabi, Jan 6: An Indian businessman who had been running cafeterias in the UAE for more than three decades was going home after saying good bye to his friends and relatives, but did not reach, as he died of a heart attack at the airport.

shahul hameedShahul Hameed, 58, had been living in the UAE for more than 35 years and just after calling it a day, he was all set to fly home from Abu Dhabi, boarding pass in hand.

Before he could board the plane, he developed chest pain and died at the airport itself. Shahul Hameed, who hails from Tirur Vailathoor in Kerala, used to run a cafeteria at Hilton Road, Al Ain.

“He said goodbye to his friends and relatives on Saturday and was waiting to board the flight to Calicut on Saturday evening when he suddenly developed chest pain and a strong heart attack.

“He was only a few hours away from his family, but died at the airport itself while waiting after collecting his boarding pass,” a friend of the deceased said.

The body was shifted to the Khalifa Hospital. The deceased is survived by his daughters Sajila, Shamseela and Shamjad.

Bengaluru, Apr 17: Karnataka on Thursday inked an agreement with the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar-led Art of Living to rejuvenate water sources and improve groundwater recharge in nine districts.

Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister KS Eshwarappa held talks with Ravi Shankar on the project. The partnership seeks to take up works through funds available under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).

The project proposes to take up works in Shivamogga, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chitradurga, Ballari, Kolar, Yadgir, Kodagu and Tumakuru districts. Under NREGA, works such as construction of check dams, construction of contours, bunds and so on will be commissioned.

Mangaluru, June 16: A youth has been arrested by the sleuths of Ullal police station on charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl and impregnating her on the outskirts of the city. 

The arrested has been identified as Lavakumar alias Shravan, a resident of Valacchil, who was working in a fast-food outlet at Thokkottu. 

According to the police, the accused had sexually assaulted his owner’s minor daughter. The incident came to light when the girl’s mother came to know that former was pregnant.

It is said that the girl’s mother, who had employed the accused, allowed him to stay in their house. The accused befriended the minor girl and sexually used her.

Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, a case was registered at Ullal police station under Pocso Act. The police arrested him yesterday and produced him before a local court.

Kasaragod, Apr 1: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday announced a special action plan for Kasargod district where more people testing positive to the Coronovirous.

"The northern most district of the State has become the hot bed of Coronavirus infection with the maximum number of positive cases confirmed in Kerala," the Chief Minister told a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

“A special action plan will be implemented in Kasargod. Currently, Kasargod district has the maximum number of positive cases and also the highest number of people under hospital observation. Data from the panchayats in the district will be used to test people with symptoms and also to identify people in contact with them," he said.
