Nurse, who treated Nirbhaya, gang-raped in Punjab

Chandigarh, Sep 10: A nurse, who treated 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim 'Nirbhaya' at Safdarjung hospital, was allegedly sexually assaulted by seven men in Punjab's Mansa district, reports said on Wednesday.

Nurse gangrapesAs per reports, the shameful incident happened on Monday in Budhlada town of Punjab.

The 33-year-old woman was allegedly raped whole night inside a tubewell shed in the Gurna village.

Police have registered a case under Section 376 of IPC and arrested two accused - Balwinder Singh Kala and Manwinder - in connection with the case. Strangely, the woman has refused to undergo medical test.

Reports claim that the woman knew one of the accused, who is said to be the husband of her ailing friend.

The incident happened after she was picked up by her friend's husband from Budhlada railway station and taken to an isolated place. She was gang-raped there and taken back to the railway station. When she tried to raise an alarm at the station the accused fled.

The alleged rape victim was given a call by her friend’s husband, who asked her to visit Punjab as his wife was in a critical condition.

The Delhi based-nurse was part of the team of doctors, who treated 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist, who was brutally gang-raped inside a moving bus in the national capital by six people on December 16, 2012.

'Nirbhaya' was initially admitted at Safdarjung hospital and later shifted to Singapore for further treatment. Unfortunately, due to grievous injuries the 'Delhi braveheart' lost her life in Singapore hospital.

Bengaluru, Apr 12: Two police officials have been booked for murder in connection with the alleged custodial death of a theft accused in Bengaluru rural district, police said on Saturday.

A case of murder has been registered against inspector Raghu and sub-inspector Rakesh C for the alleged custodial death of Munikulla on Friday afternoon, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru rural district, Ravi D Channannavar told reporters.

"Yes. A case has been registered and transferred to CID," he said.

Munikulla, a resident of Nadavatti village, was picked up by the police on April 7, his wife Dhanalakshmi told the media on Saturday.

"Policemen took my husband with them. They beat him up and killed him," she said.

Alleging that Munikulla was a victim of police high- handedness, Hoskote MLA Sharath Bachegowda said he had lodged a complaint with the state DGP Praveen Sood demanding a CID inquiry into the case.

An FIR was registered against Munikulla on Friday evening based on a complaint by the cashier of the liquor store, who had claimed that the CCTV footage showed victim's involvement.

Meerut: The licence of a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has been suspended after a video showing its staff member providing fake Covid-19 report had gone viral.

"A video had gone viral in Meerut. We have registered a case in this regard. We have suspended the licence of the nursing home. Today, we have sealed it also. Strict action will be taken against anybody who will do something like this in this time of crisis,” said Anil Dhingra, District Magistrate, Meerut.

In the video, the person can be heard saying that they provide Covid-19 negative report for Rs 2,500, Dhingra stated.

Meerut CMO Rajkumar said, “In the video, a man from the hospital can be heard saying that he can arrange COVID-19 negative report and the person can get operation or other things done. We have identified the man. We have suspended the licence of the hospital and an FIR has been registered.”

Vijayawada, Aug 9: The number of those killed in the fire at a hotel being used as a COVID-19 facility in Vijayawada rose to 10 on Sunday, said Vikrant Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government announced Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia each to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

According to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also ordered an in-depth probe into the accident and directed authorities to take steps to ensure better medical services to the victims of the accident.

"The hotel was taken on lease and run by Ramesh Hospitals, a private hospital where COVID-19 patients were being treated. 40 patients and 10 medical staff were at the hotel at the time of the incident. 

Officials were directed to launch immediate rescue measures," said Mekathoti Sucharitha, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of the lives in the fire mishap and spoke to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy over the phone and enquired about the accident.

The mishap took place in hotel Swarna Palace which was taken on lease and run by a private hospital for COVID patients.
