One has to get into regional cinema to reach India's core: Akshay

Mumbai, Mar 21: An artiste must venture into films in different languages to catch the pulse of the country, especially the interiors, believes actor-producer Akshay Kumar.

The actor, who has produced movies in Hindi, Marathi and Punjabi, said he is open to backing more films in the same space.

"I think best content comes from Marathi cinema... I have made two Marathi films and both of them have won awards. I have also made a Punjabi film. I think to reach into the core of India you have to get into the regional cinema," Akshay said in an interview here.

The actor said he wants to make Bhojpuri and Tamil films.

"I have tried making a Telugu film but we couldn't complete the script," he added.

Akshay, 51, may have worked in a string of patriotic and issue-based films recently, but he said he wants to continue doing films in different genres.

In his 28 years of acting career, Akshay has managed to successfully switch to different genres from action to romance and comedies to socially relevant cinema recently. The actor said he is doing so to keep reinventing himself.

"If I am changing my image, it is because I am having fun with it. It is not that I have to prove anything to anyone. I want to enjoy my work so I keep doing different things.

"Initially in my career I was only doing action films and no one would offer me to do any other kind of work. I am glad I got the opportunity to keep changing my image with every film," he said.

The actor was recently roped in for Amazon Prime Video's action thriller series, tentatively titled "The End".

Akshay, who rose to fame as an action star with the "Khiladi" series in the 1990s, said he would want to continue doing stunts for the next five years.

"I am 51, I think I can do action till the age of 56. God knows after that. If I am able to maintain myself, I will continue. Otherwise, there are other things one can do."

The actor's latest release "Kesari" released Wednesday.

Akshay also has "Housefull 4", "Good News", "Sooryavanshi" and "Mission Mangal" in the pipeline.

Mumbai, Jun 15: Actor Sushant Singh Rajput's brother-in-law O.P. Singh, who is the Additional Director General of Police and posted as Special Officer in the Haryana Chief Minister's Office, suspected some foul play in the crime, it is reliably learnt on Monday. He is seeking a thorough probe into the incident.

"Sushant Singh Rajput has been murdered, he cannot commit suicide. I demand CBI enquiry into the matter," Jan Adhikar Party Chief Pappu Yadav told media persona at the actor’s residence in Patna, where his family resides.

The 34-year-old actor was found hanging at his apartment in Mumbai's Bandra on Sunday.

His sister lives in Chandigarh.

State officials said Singh has left for Mumbai soon he came to know about the suicide incident.

Expressing condolences, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said actor Rajput's death is an "irreparable loss" to not only the film industry but also for the entire society.

Bhubaneswar, Jul 25: The COVID-19 pandemic has hit many people hard, and the latest victim of the pandemic is Bollywood actor Kartika Sahoo from Odisha. With the entertainment industry almost non-functional and most productions on hold, the actor is forced to sell vegetables for a living.

Sahoo, who hails from the from Garadpur block of the Kendrapada district in Odisha, said that he went to Mumbai to try his luck in Bollywood at the age of 17. For many years he worked as a bodyguard to film stars and cricketers such as Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar, among others.

Lady luck shone on him in 2018, and he landed noticeable roles in the action sequences of many movies, he said while speaking with news agency. He also has a fight sequence with Akshay Kumar in his upcoming film 'Sooryavanshi'.

Just before the nationwide lockdown which started on March 22, Sahoo had returned home to Odisha after shooting a fight sequence in Jaipur. Since then, with no work, the actor has been living off his savings to sustain his family. But, after four months of no work, and a medical emergency, a major part of his savings was drained.

To find work, he moved to state capital Bhubaneswar, but to no avail. In the end, Sahoo had to resort to selling vegetables in Rasulgad there.

Sahoo is still hopeful and said that he'll again try his luck in Bollywood once the situation is back to normal, till then he'll struggle, like others, for survival.

Mumbai, Aug 3: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he has immense gratitude for the doctors who provided him with medical care for Covid-19 and feels overwhelmed to be free of the virus finally.

Amitabh, on Sunday, tested negative for the novel coronavirus and was discharged from hospital.

The 77-year-old actor was admitted to Nanavati hospital along with son Abhishek after testing positive for Covid-19 on July 11. Abhishek, 44, is still positive and will remain under medical care.

"It has been heartening to be back from the Hospital after the ‘mukti’ from the coronavirus but a sour taste in the mouth when Abhishek has to still be in the medical care," Amitabh wrote in his blog.

The actor said doctors are tirelessly working towards battling the virus "each hour" through consultation, sharing of information and experience with their fraternity from other parts of the world which gives "the hope of repair."

"Assuring us each minute that ‘all shall be well’ , when in fact they themselves struggle to find that confirmed patent that can be used, delivered, executed to save lives and conditions from the virus.

"When I had addressed them as 'angels in white' I had never imagined that I would be supine in their midst to savour their angelic presence, as they give us hope, inspiration and the strength to fight. They are quite quite remarkable. My gratitude shall never fail for them... feeling bad for Abhishek .. prayers he comes home soon," he added.

On Sunday, Abhishek thanked well-wishers for their continued support and said he would remain under medical care.

"I, unfortunately, due to some comorbidities remain Covid-19 positive and remain in hospital. Again, thank you all for your continued wishes and prayers for my family. Very humbled and indebted. I'll beat this and come back healthier! Promise," he wrote.

Abhishek's wife, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 46, and eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya were discharged from the hospital on Monday after testing negative for Covid-19.
