Mangaluru, Jun 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused Congress and other parties of creating unrest and fear in the country to prevent Narendra Modi from becoming the Prime Minister again after 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking to media persons, Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi, who is also Karnataka BJP’s general secretary, termed the unity among Opposition parties such as the Congress, the Janata Dal (Secular), Trinamool Congress, Telugu Desam Party, Samajwadi Party and the Nationalist Congress Party as a national level conspiracy.

He went on to claim that Pakistan and China also now feared Mr. Modi. They feared that if Mr. Modi became the Prime Minister again, India would emerge stronger. Hence, the conspiracy in the international level, he claimed.

Mr. Ravi said that ahead of Gujarat Assembly elections some of these parties tried to create unrest in society in the name of Patel, Dalit and Backward Class movement. That movement has now taken a rest in Gujurat. They might again launch it before the next elections. Now, they were trying to spread it to the Assembly poll-bound States of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. “They are pitching tents in those States,” he said.

He said that the Opposition parties were now attempting to create unrest in society in the name of farmers. It was a political conspiracy against the BJP. “The criminal minds of the Congress and the Communist parties are working towards this agenda, than with a real concern for farmers,” he said.

Udupi, Feb 16: Nine people were killed after a private bus collided with a large roadside boulder in Udupi district in Karnataka on Saturday, the police said. The accident took place on Saturday evening, at around 5.45 pm, on the Mulnur Ghat at Abbas Kattingeri in Mala village, while the bus was on its way to Mangaluru from Sringeri, reported the news channel.

The bus, which was reportedly carrying around 35 passengers, was trying to manoeuvre a turn while travelling on a ghat road when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit a massive boulder and the impact caused seven people to die on the spot. Two others passed away while they were on the way to the hospital.

The deceased passengers have been identified as Radha Ravi, Yogendra, Preetham Gowda, Basavaraju, Angana, Sharul and Ranjitha. The cleaner of the bus was also killed in the accident.

According to reports, the passengers in the bus were mostly in their early 20s and were employees of Vital Records Private Limited near JCK Industrial Park. Century Vital Records is a data security company which works in the Hebbal Industrial Mysuru. The group was visiting Udupi, Hornadu and Kudremukh.

While some of the injured persons were rushed to Manipal hospital, others were taken to the Karkala city government hospital, police said.

The police have said that rash and negligent driving by the driver is likely to have caused the accident. A case has been registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station, the police said.

Last month, three persons were killed and four others were injured after a fatal collision between a van and a bus near Bengaluru. Both the vehicles caught fire after the impact, but while passengers of the bus, travelling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga, managed to escape, the three passengers who were trapped in the van could not escape and were charred to death.

New Delhi, Jan 28: The Supreme Court of India today granted bail to 17 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002 Gujarat massacre case, pending their appeal before the Supreme Court.

The convicts also have to participate in social and spiritual services, said the court, announcing the riders for bail.

The Bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant directed for the convicts to be segregated into two groups to be sent to Indore and Jabalpur.

District legal authorities in Indore and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh have been asked to ensure that the convicts do the spiritual and social work the court has asked for.

The Supreme Court has also asked the administration to find them work for livelihood. The state legal services authority has been asked to file a compliance report as also report on their conduct.

The case concerns the mass killing of 33 innocent Muslims - mostly women and children - who were burnt alive at Sardarpura village in March 2002.

This was part of the mass massacre that swept through Gujarat in the aftermath of the death of train passengers on Sabarmati Express in Godhra on Feb 27, 2002. Thousands of innocent Muslims were killed and raped in the three-day violence. The victims include hundreds of children including newborns.

In 2016, the Gujarat High Court had upheld the conviction of 17 accused in the Sardarpura massacre case.

Earlier, a Special SIT court had convicted a total of 31 persons in the case, after three years of trial against 73 persons from Sardarpura and nearby villages.
