Over 100 buses damaged by protesters across Karnataka amidst strike

Bengaluru/Mangaluru, Jul 25: Protestors damaged over 100 buses across Karnataka on Monday the first day of the strike called by employees of all four transport corporations in the state: KSRTC, BMTC, NEKRTC and NWKRTC.

49 KSRTC buses, 4 BMTC buses, 12 NWKRTC and 27 NEKRTC buses were damaged as of 9 am this morning, causing a loss of Rs 8,97,300 for all corporations. Later more buses were damaged.

In view of the violence and damage to public property, the police have deployed over 3000 police men to ensure law and order and maintain peace in the state.

Employees of transport corporations are on an indefinite protest demanding a 30% increase in DA given to them, along with about 44 other demands, including intercorporation transfers, creches of the children of corporation employees, rest room for ladies in all depots and so on.

The traffic police, taking note of complaints of auto drivers fleecing commuters by taking advantage of the opportunity and charging extra, have promised action if passengers can bring this to the attention of the police.

South Western Railway has planned to halt all passenger and express trains at Byappanahalli, Carmelaram, Whitefield and Channasandra stations to benefit citizens in the wake of transport strike on Monday, according to a statement from the south western railways.

With barely any buses on the streets, Namma Metro pitched in by increasing the frequency of trains to five minutes.

Both employees union and the management including the state government are firm on their respective stands with the transport corporations as well as the management saying that increasing the wages of workers will result in losses for the corporations.

Udupi, Mar 14: Amidst growing Coronavirus scare, a youth with suspected Coronavirus symptoms was admitted to Udupi District Hospital here, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Sudhir Chandrachud said.

According to him, A 37-year-old youth, a native of Shirwa, who works in a Japanese ship and was onboard a Japanese vessel that was recently blocked due to the coronavirus. However, he was left out on its way to Dubai, where he was diagnosed with coronavirus infection and he returned to his native.

However, he did not show any of the primary symptoms of coronavirus, such as cough, cold, fever, but he was suffering from diarrhea and abdominal pain with slight respiratory problems following which he has been admitted to an isolated ward in the district hospital here on Friday evening.

Mangaluru, Feb 3: After neighbouring reported the second confirmed case of dreaded Coronavirus, the government of Karnataka today ordered high alert across border districts including Dakshina Kannada.

Apart from Dakshina Kannada, district administrations in Kodagu, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru that share boundary with Kerala have been put on high alert over the movement of people with suspected cases.

In a statement released on Monday, the Health and Family welfare department said that these districts have been directed to immediately report to the State Surveillance Unit (SSU) if they come across any suspected cases of people infected with Coronavirus.

Currently, about 51 people who returned from Coronavirus-affected regions have been identified and 46 are under home isolation across Karnataka.

So far, 44 samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for analysis and out of which 29 samples have revealed negative results. Yet, the state government has put in all possible measures to check the spread of the virus in any part of the state.

Jan 29: Karnataka Tourism Minister, CT Ravi came up in support of BJP leader Anurag Thakur, and made a controversial statement in the process.

Ravi recently took to Twitter to express his views on Thakur facing probe for allegedly making provocative statements. In his tweet, Ravi said that "anti-nationals should get bullet not biryani".

"Those attacking Union MoS @ianuragthakur for his statement against traitors are the ones who - opposed death to terrorirts Ajmal Kasab and Yakub Memon, supported tukde tukde gang, spread lies against CAA. Anti-nationals should get bullet not biryani," Ravi tweeted.

Earlier, Thakur had allegedly made slogans like "Desh ke gaddaro ko, goli maaro saalo ko (shoot the traitors)" multiple times during a public meeting in Delhi. He had also faced a show-cause notice from the Electon Commission, asking a response from him on January 30.
