Pakistan beats Bangladesh by 328 runs in 2nd test

Dhaka, May 9: Pakistan finally ended the victory drought on its Bangladesh tour, winning the second and final test by a massive 328 runs Saturday to take the series 1-0.

The test was Pakistan’s last chance to salvage a miserable tour after being swept in the one-day internationals, losing the Twenty20, and conceding a draw in the first test in Khulna.

Leg-spinner Yasir Shah returned figures of 4-73 as Pakistan completed the formalities of the victory just one hour after the lunch break on the fourth day, bowling out Bangladesh for 221.

Mominul Haque was the highest scorer for the hosts with 68 while Tamim Iqbal made 42. Shuvagata Hom was the last batsman to be out on 39.

Mominu became the fourth batsmen to score a half-century in 11 consecutive tests.

Shah’s four-for was complemented by fast bowler Imran Khan, who finished with 2-56 and ran through Bangladesh top order in the morning session to take Pakistan close to victory.

Junaid Khan, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Hafeez took one wicket apiece.

Most of the Bangladesh batsmen threw away their wickets with impatient strokes.

Opener Tamim Iqbal, who hit a career best 206 in the first test, was the first man out in the morning session when he nicked an Imran delivery to Sarfraz Ahmed.

Imran struck again with the wicket of Mahmudullah (2) who pushed away from his body to get an outside edge and Younis Khan took a brilliant reflex catch at slip, leaving Bangladesh 95-3.

Shakib Al Hasan (13) hastened the downfall of the team by playing a rash shot, lured by Hafeez who gave more flight to invite him to attack.

Yasir Shah then removed Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck, with the batsman dragging a turning delivery onto the stumps.

Mushfiqur’s dismissal effectively closed Bangladesh’s slim chances to take the match into the fifth day.

Pakistan needed just one hour to complete the formalities after the lunch, with Soumya Sarkar (1) and Mominul Haque removed in the space of just one over.

Shuvagata Hom delayed the inevitable for a while.

Bangladesh, which was bowled out 203 in its first innings, resumed the day 63—1 in its bid to chase an unlikely target of 550.

Mount Maunganui, Feb 2: India registered a rare 5-0 whitewash against New Zealand after notching up a seven-run win in the fifth and final T20 International at Bay Oval here on Sunday.

Electing to bat, India posted 163 for three, riding on Rohit Sharma's 60 off 41 balls and a 33-ball 45 from K L Rahul.

The visitors then restricted the hosts to 156 for nine with Jasprit Bumrah claiming three wickets for 12 runs.

Chasing the target, the Black Caps were tottering at 17 for three in 3.2 overs.

Tim Seifert (50) and Ross Taylor (53) then added 99 runs for the fourth wicket as New Zealand recovered to 116.

Seifert clobbered a 30-ball 50 studded with five fours and three sixes, while Ross Taylor hit two sixes and five fours in his 47-ball 53-run innings.

However, once Seifert was dismissed in the 13th over, the hosts suffered a collapse, losing five wickets, including Taylor, for 25 runs to loss the plot in the end.

Karachi, May 18: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan believes it is at least five years too early to compare Virat Kohli and Babar Azam as the Indian skipper has proven himself in "every kind of situation" and the latter has not.

"Virat Kohli is far more experienced than Babar. He has at least five years more experience of top cricket and he is at the peak of his career," said Younis, Pakistan's leading run-getter in Tests.

"Kohli has far more exposure than Babar and he has been in every kind of situation and proven himself. No one gets 70 international centuries like that and this are proof of his class and abilities. He has scored runs in every situation and all opposition."

Younis said said Babar still has a long way to go.

"Babar has been in top cricket for just around five years. He has got a very impressive batting average across all three formats and he is getting better by the day.

"You see him batting and you can see he has got the same qualities that Kohli had at the start of his career."

Besides amassing 70 international hundreds, 31-year-old Kohli averages more than 50 in all three formats. The India skipper has scored more than 20,000 runs while 25-year-old Babar has 6680 runs across formats though the Pakistan limited overs skipper has played significantly lesser number of games.

Silverstone, Aug 2: Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton on Sunday won his seventh British Grand Prix title after a dramatic last-lap at the Silverstone Circuit.

Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas were at the first and second spot respectively until tyre drama struck.

Second-placed man Bottas was the first to suffer as his tyre deflated on lap 50, resulting in 11th place finish. Hamilton also suffered a similar issue before the final few seconds of the race.

However, with Max Verstappen having opted to pit a few laps from the end to try and claim the fastest lap, Hamilton had enough time in hand to just cross the line first, five seconds ahead of Verstappen and the third-placed Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

McLaren's Carlos Sainz had been set to finish fourth, but his own last lap tyre issue saw him eventually come home P13, allowing Renault's Daniel Ricciardo to claim fourth, following a late pass on the sister McLaren of Lando Norris.

Renault's Esteban Ocon finished sixth, having enjoyed a race-long battle with Lance Stroll's Racing Point, with Pierre Gasly having enjoyed a fine race to finish seventh for AlphaTauri.

Alex Albon finished eighth for Red Bull, having recovered from a lap 1 tussle with the Haas of Kevin Magnussen that saw him fall to last, while Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top 10, Vettel holding off a late charge form the recovering Mercedes of Bottas.
