Kolhapur, Dec 1: The special investigation team (SIT) of city police on Saturday re-arrested two men -- one suspected to be involved in arms haul case of Mumbai and another in journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case -- for their alleged role in senior Communist Party of India leader Govind Pansare murder case.
The SIT took custody of Vasudev Bhagvan Suryavanshi, accused in arms haul case, from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Bharat Jayant Kurne, accused in Gauri Lankesh murder case, from the Karnataka Police on late Friday night and were formally arrested this morning after preliminary inquiry, sources said.
The duo were later in the day produced before a court of Magistrate Ms S A Mali, who remanded them to police custody until December seven.
During the arguments, public prosecutor Shivajirao Rane told the court that Suryavanshi was a part of murder plot and provided the motorcycle used in murder of Pansare, while Kurne supplied the weapons used in the murder to two assailants.
Since the SIT wanted to find out the whereabouts of the motorcycle used in crime and to whom Kurne had supplied the weapons, Mr Rane demanded 14 days police custody for the duo for an in-depth investigation.
