Parineeti Chopra: the Vidya Balan of younger generation

February 8, 2014

Parineeti_ChopraNew Delhi, Feb 8: Parineeti Chopra made a remarkable debut in the forgettable film Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. She impressed the audience with her acting prowess in the film and moved on to deliver performances like Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance.

Her latest movie Hasee Toh Phasee, too, seems to have floored the critics.

With a national award in her two-year-long career in the industry, Parineeti has made a mark for herself. Just like Vidya Balan, Chopra can carry a film on her shoulders alone.

Of the four films that she has featured in, three have set box office on fire and all of them had critics singing laurels for her acting prowess.

The other actress, who has been box office queen in recent times, is Deepika Padukone. Unlike Padukone, Parineeti's roles have mostly defied stereotypes. Padukone's fame rose with big hits like Chennai Express and Race 2. Unfortunately, Deepika played the Bollywood stereotypes in these movies - just looking pretty and acting all in love with the hero.

In Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2012), Parineeti's character was a talkative girl who appeared cliched on the surface but had layers of confidence and self-dependence. Parineeti grabbed the Filmfare and IIFA award for best debut.

In Ishaqzaade (2013), Chopra plays a Muslim girl who is far from the stereotype of a typical small-town girl. She is independent, educated and has a mind of her own. This Habib Faisal's directorial venture got Parineeti her first National Film Award (Special Mention).

Maneesh Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) was a film that was again, fresh, youthful and broke myths of stereotypes. Parineeti and Sushant Singh Rajput played an unmarried couple living together in Kanpur.

With Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), Parineeti has already raised the bar for heroines.

Playing the hero will soon be the new fashion statement in Bollywood.
