Ponzi scam: CBI files charge sheet against IMA founder Mansoor Khan

Bengaluru, Sept 9: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against Mansoor Khan and others in the alleged multi-crore IMA ponzi scam case.

The charge sheet was filed by the investigating agency on September 7. After taking over the case on September 2, the agency filed an FIR against Khan and 25 persons in the case.

The scam came to light in June this year after the prime accused and IMA's Managing Director Khan fled the country, leaving behind a video message, in which he threatened to commit suicide due to alleged 'harassment' by some politicians and goons.

Last month, the Karnataka government had transferred the case to the agency.

Karnataka-based I-Monetary Advisory (IMA) firm is accused of duping thousands of people by promising high returns using Islamic ways of investment.

In July, Khan was arrested on his arrival from Dubai after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the scam located and persuaded him to come to India and submit before the law. Following this, he was sent to the judicial custody.

Davanagere, Apr 26: Amid the national lockdown imposed by the Centre to check the spread of coronavirus, social distancing norms were flouted as BJP MLA from Honnali -- MP Renukacharya -- held a meeting of ASHA workers on Thursday.

The workers were present in large numbers and no distance of at least one metre between the workers was maintained during the meeting.

However, the workers were seen wearing masks at the meeting but violating the norms of social distancing.

Social distancing is one of the measures that can help people avoid contracting the highly contagious coronavirus.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka has a total of 489 positive COVID-19 cases of which, 153 patients have recovered and 18 patients have died due to the deadly virus.

Mangaluru, July 29: The police have managed to nab a youth in connection with issuing death threat against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the outgoing deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

The arrested has been identified as Ranjit, a resident of Bajpe, on the outskirts of the city. He is said to be Hindutva activist. 

The death threat came in the wake of the officer’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha. 

Even though the IAS officer had not lodged any complaint, Moodbidri police had registered a suo motu case after a WhatsApp screenshot of the death threat went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Sindhu B Rupesh was transferred and posted as director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, Mar 25 : Karnataka recorded its highest single-day tally to date, as 10 people tested positive, taking the total number of cases to 51 in the state.

“Till date 51 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state which includes one death and three discharged," the health department said in a statement on Wednesday.

The rise in cases adding to the growing national tally of people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The daughter of a former union minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Karnataka has also tested positive.

Bengaluru accounts for 32 of the total 51 cases recorded in the state so far,including three who have fully recovered and released.

Dakshina Kannada has five confirmed cases, Chikkaballapura and Kalaburagi has three cases each, Mysuru has and Uttara Kannada has two cases each and four other districts have one case each.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a 21-day lockdown of the country to keep people indoors and contain the spread of the virus in the community.

The government has also been trying to scale up testing.

Medical education minister K.Sudhakar on Wednesday told Mint that Karnataka will scale up testing by 10-fold with the help of government and private labs approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

A total of 2,438 people have been tested in Karnataka and 2242 have tested negative, according to state health department. 214 people are lodged in medical hospitals.
