Prakash Jaju has no credibility, sad he got coverage: Priyanka

April 13, 2016

New Delhi, Apr 13: Breaking her silence on former manager Prakash Jaju's claims on her alleged suicide attempts, actress Priyanka Chopra says he should not have been given attention by the media as his statements were not authentic.

priyankaIn a series of tweets earlier this month, Jaju had said the 33-year-old "Quantico" star tried to commit suicide thrice during her struggling days, including in 2002 after the death of her alleged former boyfriend Aseem Merchant's mother.

"This is utter... First of all, it's so sad that Indian media has given credibility to the man, who was in jail because of harassing me, without checking the history who the person is. So, I have nothing to say because there is no credibility to this person, who media is giving credibility to," she told PTI.

Things between the "Bajirao Mastani" star and Jaju turned sour when she terminated his services in 2004. Later, he even filed a criminal suit against her, accusing that she has not cleared his dues.

Jaju, however, ended up serving 67 days in jail after Priyanka's father, Ashok Chopra filed a complaint against him for interfering in his daughter's privacy.

His tweets came days after popular TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee was found dead at her home. The police suspected she committed suicide due to stress over her relationship with boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh.

Pratyusha's demise re-opened the ever ongoing debate if people from showbiz are more prone to depression. Priyanka, however, finds it disappointing that finger has been pointed at the entertainment industry.

"Why don't we talk about those women, who commit suicide because they were harassed by the mother-in-laws or being beaten in their homes? Or they kill themselves because they are unhappy in their homes? It's so easy to turn around and say about the showbiz world."

Priyanka condemned those, who are talking ill about the actress without even finding the actual truth. "Nobody knows the truth. Nobody ever tried to find out what the poor 24-year-old girl was going through... And as usual, people are dissecting her life. People are unnecessarily talking about her, not giving her and family the respect they deserve right now."

The "Jai Gangaajal" star said the youth should not end their own lives and rather teach a lesson to the person, who is bothering them.

"Young people are also committing suicide in colleges and hostels. I believe why they have to kill themselves for somebody else. I would kill that person first before ending my life for the person."

Indore, Jan 14: Yoga guru Ramdev has said that Deepika Padukone should hire persons like him for offering correct advice, days after the actress had visited Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi following the violence at the campus earlier this month.

"Deepika Padukone needs to study about political, social and cultural issues. She should understand more about our country. Only after gaining knowledge, she should take decisions. I feel she should have persons like Swami Ramdev for correct advice," Ramdev said at an event here on Monday.

On January 7, Padukone joined the protest at JNU after a masked mob entered the varsity campus and attacked the students and teachers with sticks and rods on January 5.

Several BJP leaders questioned the support extended by Padukone. On the other hand, the Congress threw their weight behind the actress for her stand.

Mumbai, Jul 25: Movie theatres have been shuttered for months due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country, but the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has now recommended that the Union Home Ministry allow cinema halls to reopen in August.

I&B Secretary Amit Khare indicated this at a close-door industry interaction with the CII Media Committee on Friday. He said Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla at the Home Ministry would take the final call.

Khare said that he has recommended that cinema halls may be allowed to reopen all over India as early as August 1, or at the latest, around August 31.

The formula suggested is that alternate seats in the first row and then the next row be kept vacant, and proceeding in this fashion throughout.

Khare said that his ministry's recommendation takes into consideration the two metre social distancing norm, but tweaks it gently to two yards instead. The Home Ministry, however, still has to revert on the recommendation.

Cinema owners, present in the interaction, however, pushed back and said this formula is unwise and merely running films at 25% auditorium capacity is worse than keeping the cinemas shut.

The attendees at the meet included media CEOs like N.P. Singh of Sony, Sam Balsara (Madison), Megha Tata, (Discovery), Gaurav Gandhi (Amazon Prime), Manish Maheshwari (Twitter), S. Sivakumar (Bennett Coleman and Co Ltd), and K Madhavan, Star & Disney, and also Chairman, CII Media Committee.

The OTT platforms present, including Gandhi of Amazon Prime, did not push back. Some Bollywood producers, notably those of Amitabh Bachchan's Gulabo Sitabo, have posted their movies on OTT, rather than live out the lockdown uncertainty.
