Prakash Raj slams CPI(M) for suppressing farmers agitation in Kerala

Kasaragod, Mar 16: Actor-cum-activist Prakash Raj, who has raised his voice against fascist tendencies by the Sangh Parivar, has now criticised the Communist Party of India (Marxist), accusing it of suppressing an agitation by farmers seeking realignment of the National Highway set to pass through a paddy field at Keezhattur in Kerala.

Workers of the CPI(M), which successfully organised a farmers march to Mumbai recently seeking to redress their woes, allegedly set on fire the venue of the agitation at Keezhattur and such “fascist” tendencies needed to be resisted, Mr. Raj told a ‘Meet-the-press’ programme here on Thursday.

“The CPI(M)’s stance is equally dangerous and condemnable like the one being adopted by the BJP at the Centre if it is against the interests of local farmers,” he said.

“We all know the gravity of issues faced by the farmers. Their fight for survival need not reflect any colour or ideology and all political parties should have an insight on such issues,” he said.

Criticising the BJP, he said the communal agenda pursued by the saffron party was more dangerous than corruption and nepotism dominating the contemporary socio-political arena.

Tumakuru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed the Congress and its allies opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, saying they are against giving relief to those who have been brutalised and victimised in Pakistan.

"Pakistan was founded on religious grounds due to which atrocities on minorities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Christians have increased. But Congress and its allies don't speak against Pakistan," he said at a function here.

He also said the Congress and its allies take out rallies and stage demonstrations against the efforts to prevent atrocities on religious lines and save women from sexual assaults.

Modi wondered why those opposed to the CAA were not speaking out against Pakistan's atrocities and asked what stopped them from doing so.

Strongly defending the CAA, he said it was adopted by Parliament in a historic move, but that the Congress and its allies and the ecosystem created by his party's rival were now against the very institution.

He said India cannot leave the Hindus, Christians and Sikhs apparently fleeing Pakistan to "their fate" and added it was the country's responsibility to protect them.

Modi pointed out that the efforts are especially to protect the Dalits and tribals in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the abrogation of Article 370 was a step towards ending terrorism and uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir.

Belagavi, Feb 25: Left Parties will launch countrywide door-to-door campaign from March 1 to 23 against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR), National Register of Citizens (NRC), Communist Party of India (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that CPI (M) and other Left parties were participating in the awareness programme that will conclude on March 23, on the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar and Rajguru.

"Till now 13 states have expressed their opposition for NRC and will not implement it, which means more than fifty per cent of country will not have it," he added.
