Priyanka earns nomination at 8th Shorty Awards

Los Angeles, Jan 21: Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra has bagged a nomination in the best actress category at the 8th Annual Shorty Awards.

priyankaThe nomination comes just a few weeks after she was honoured with the best actress in a TV series award for her performance of a FBI recruit in American series "Quantico".

The Short Awards highlight the best content across the social media landscape including Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube and Instagram.

The 33-year-old actress, who has a huge fan following across all social media platforms, will compete with Amandla Stenberg, Cara Delevingne, Elizabeth Banks, Gabourey Sidibe, Kerry Washington, Maisie Williams, Olivia Wilde, Reese Witherspoon, Taraji P Henson, Uzo Aduba and Zendaya, said The Hollywood Reporter.

The best actress category falls under Arts and Entertainment section of the awards. Also placed in the section are actor, celebrity, comedian, musician, dance, singer and show categories.

The nominees for the best actor honour are Ansel Elgort Dwayne Johnson, Jared Leto, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Matt McGorry, Michael B Jordan, Nathan Fillion Ryan Reynolds, Taye Diggs, Tom Hanks and Zac Efron.

The best musician category has contenders like Adele Alicia Keys, Best Coast, Diplo, Drake, Kanye West, Little Mix, Nicki Minaj, Pearl Jam, Pharrell Williams, Ryan Adams and St Vincent.

Cher, Demi Lovato, Ellie Goulding, FKA twigs Josh Groban, Kacey Musgraves, Rihanna, Sara Bareilles Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Tori Kelly and Troye Sivan are nominated for the best singer award.

"@midnight", "Broad City", "Empire", "Game of Thrones", "How To Get Away with Murder", "Lip Sync Battle", "Pretty Little Liars", "Property Brothers", "Saturday Night Live", "Teen Wolf", "The Bachelor &The Bachelorette" and "The Late Late Show with James Corden" are nominated for the best show trophy.

The awards will be held in April in New York City and will be available via live stream.

Mumbai, Jul 26: Just days after actor Kangana Ranaut made some claims on Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide case and asked why the Mumbai police is not summoning some people of the Hindi film industry, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Sunday said that film director Mahesh Bhatt and Karan Johar's manager will be called for the questioning.

"Tomorrow Mahesh Bhatt will be called for questioning and we will later call Karan Johar's manager too. If required Karan Johar can also be called for the questioning in Sushant Singh Rajput case," he said while speaking to news agency.

A day Rajput's suicide, Kangana had released a two-minute video speaking highly of the deceased actor and accusing certain sections of the film industry for not acknowledging the star's talent.

Kangana had also claimed that some of the last social media posts by the actor made it evident that he was struggling to survive in the industry.

According to the police, statements of 39 people, including film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have been recorded in the investigation so far.

Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Mumbai, Jan 19: An FIR has been registered against actor Shabana Azmi's driver after the car they were travelling in met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Ms Azmi's driver has been identified as Amlesh Yogendra Kamat.

According to the police, a complaint has been registered by Rajesh Pandurang Shinde, the truck driver whose vehicle was hit from behind by Ms Azmi's car.

"Due to rash driving by the driver, the car hit the moving truck on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway which resulted in the accident," the FIR copy read.

Soon after the accident, Shabana Azmi was immediately rushed to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai and was later shifted to the multi-specialty Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai's Andheri.

According to doctors, she has suffered a head injury and slight damage to the backbone. Her condition is said to be stable, although, she remains under medical observation.

Her husband lyricist Javed Akhtar, who was travelling with her, escaped with a minor injury.

New Delhi, Mar 27: By posting a stunning picture of herself, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan on Friday motivated people to stay strong during the tough times that the country is facing amid the coronavirus crisis.
The actor took to Instagram and posted a high-on-style picture of herself clicked from behind.
In the picture, the 'Jab We Met' actor is seen standing in front of make-up mirrors that had lights adding on to the shine of the picture.
"Nothing can dim the light that shines from within... Stay strong. We can and we will," she captioned the picture in which she is seen wearing a blue bodycon dress having puffy sleeves.
The glamourous picture received scores of comments from the celebrated actor's fans.
With the entertainment industry under shutdown, many celebrities are self-isolating them to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The number of people who have tested positive for the coronavirus rose to 724 on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
