Proud to be 33, married and working with big stars: Kareena

August 12, 2014

KareenaNew Delhi, Aug 12: Married actresses not getting good roles is a thing of past in Bollywood, according to Kareena Kapoor Khan, who says her career did not suffer any setback after she tied the knot with Saif Ali Khan and she still gets to work with top stars like Aamir, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.

The 33-year-old actress married Saif in 2012, and right after the wedding she starred opposite Aamir Khan in “Talaash”, did an item number in Salman-starrer “Dabangg 2” and was part of Prakash Jha’s “Satyagraha” with Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan.

Kareena will be next seen in “Singham Return”’ opposite Devgn and has also signed a film with Salman titled ‘Bajrangi Baijaan’

“I am happy and proud that even after marriage I am working with Ajay and Salman... getting offered big-budget commercial films. Being married is not a crime and it has nothing to do with my career. Hindi movies are changing. Today it’s all about good actors, not about young and old. I am happy to be married and 33,” Kareena said.

The actress, whose upcoming film “Singham Return” will hit theatres this Friday, says she has been keeping so busy after marriage especially for the last few months that her husband has been complaining that he doesn’t get to spend enough time with her because of her tight schedule.

“I am busier after marriage. I have been so busy for the last five months that Saif is like ‘I am not getting enough time with my wife’ So, I have decided that after this I am going to take a break for one and half months and travel with him,” she said.

“Singham Returns” will reunite frequent collaborators- director Rohit Shetty, Devgan and Kareena, who have previously worked together in laugh riots “Golmaal”’ and “Golmaal 3”.

Kareena says the character of a spunky and vivacious girl in the film was what attracted her and it was welcome change for her after a string of serious roles.

“It is an exciting journey with Rohit and Ajay. We have worked together in so many films. Rohit has given me very successful films. When he offered me this film I could not say no as he is the biggest director in the country. After a long time people will see me in this role where I play a very spunky girl,” Kareena said.

In her 14-year-long career, Kareena has worked in both commercial films like ‘Bodyguard’, “Kabhi Khushi abhi Gham”, “Jab We Met”, as well as off-beat movies including “Dev”, “Chameli”, “Omkar”’ among others.

When asked which of films excite her more, Kareena said, “I am a commercial actress. It is a part of me. I am both a star and an actress. I can’t be just doing off-beat films.

“Moreover it is not about doing off-beat movies, it is about great script. Having said that, I feel big budget films are something that I can’t live without,” she said.

Kareena will begin shooting for Kabir Khan’s “Bajrangi Baijaan’’ from October after her mini vacation with Saif.

Besides that she says she has 25 scripts lying with her and she will take a call on her future projects very soon.

“I want to work with new directors. I want to do films that I believe in. That is why for the last three months I have listened to 25 scripts. I am going to take a call,” she said.

Mumbai, Aug 3: In a significant statement, Mumbai Police chief Parambar Singh on Monday said that actor Sushant Singh Rajput was “emotionally disturbed” after the death of his ex-manager Disha Salian.

“When he saw his name being linked to Disha Salian’s death on social media, he was emotionally disturbed. He had met Disha Salian only once, he even asked his advocate who she was,” Singh told reporters in Mumbai.

According to him, Sushant Singh Rajput was conscious about what was appearing about him on social media.

Singh also rejected allegations that Mumbai police had not sealed the Bandra duplex flat where the actor ended his life.

“The flat was sealed on June 14 itself (the day of the suicide), the next day, on June 15, forensic teams and doctors visited the flat. Only after that, the flat was unsealed,” Singh said.

The police chief also ruled out that a party was held in the flat on June 13 evening. “We have the CCTV footage of June 13 and 14,” he said.

On the quarantining of Bihar IPS officer Vinay Tiwari in Mumbai, Singh said that he does not have knowledge of this. “The BMC should have knowledge of this. They look into quarantine issues, we do not,” he said.

Singh said that the investigations are ongoing and so far 56 statements have been recorded. “We are in touch with experts, doctors,” he said.

On the bank accounts, he said that during their investigations it has come to light that Rs 4.5 crore was there in the form of deposits.  “We have recorded the statement of his current chartered accountant, former chartered accountant, we have checked the bank statements, ledger,” he said, adding that investigations are still underway.

According to the FIR filed by Sushant Singh Rajput’s father Krishna Kumar Singh in Patna, his son’s money was swindled by his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family members.

“The Mumbai Police is investigating the case thoroughly, from all possible angles, including his family members, friends, doctors and others, besides the details of the financial transactions of Sushant’s bank accounts,” Singh said.

To a query on the name of a prominent Maharashtra politician being dragged in social media, Singh categorically said that the investigations have not shown any such thing.

Singh also said that the Mumbai police had “initially recorded” the statement of the family members. “The statements of father and sisters were recorded on June 16,” he said, however, added that they have not responded to requests later on.

He said that the Mumbai Police has extended all cooperation to the family. “Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister and brother-in-law met our joint commissioner of police. They wanted to go to the Pune bungalow in Pawna area. An assistant commissioner of police accompanied them,” he said.

Who is Disha Salian?

Disha Salian hails from Karnataka’s coastal district of Udupi. She was born in 1992 into a business family background. She reportedly migrated to Mumbai with her family at an early age.

After completing her education, she worked in the Times of India Group for more than three years. She went on to become the celebrity manager at Media Vantage.

Apart from Sushant, she had great links with many popular celebrities like Bharti Singh, Alisha Panwar, and others.

Mumbai, May 30: Actor Vaani Kapoor on Saturday said she will go on a virtual date with five people as part of an initiative to raise money for daily wage earners, who have been affected due to the nationwide lockdown implemented to rein in coronavirus.

Vaani has teamed up with actor Arjun Kapoor's sister Anshula Kapoor’s online fundraising platform, Fankind, to raise funds for daily wage workers.

Vaani and Fankind have come together to provide five of her fans a chance to go on a virtual date with her - by donating to provide food to daily wage workers.

“As human beings, we will need to come forward and support as many people as possible in need due to the coronavirus pandemic in our country. I’m doing my bit to support the daily wage earners of our country and their families who are in dire situations given the lockdown.

“My activity, in which five lucky winners can have a virtual date with me, will see us collect funds to help feed them and their families across the country," Vaani said in a statement.

Earlier, Arjun too supported the initiative to help daily wage earners.

According to the press release, the funds will go to GiveIndia, a non-profit organisation, which will provide hot cooked meals to wage earners and their families. Each meal costs Rs 30 and will be delivered in various areas of Maharashtra, Bangalore, and Chennai.

A.T.E. Chandra Foundation has also come on board and will be adding 25 percent of the total donation value collected as a matching amount, thereby multiplying the impact, the release said.
