Puttur SDPI president Hamza Afnan electrocuted to death

Puttur, Oct 11: In a shocking incident, a local leader of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) was electrocuted to death at Darbe in Puttur of Dakshina Kannada district last night.

The victim is Hamza Afnan (40), a resident of Koornadka and president of SDPI Puttur town committee. He is survived by his wife and two children. 

Hamza, who was returning from a porgamme in Mangaluru along with his family, alighted from his car to adjust a flex which was put up near the petrol bunk at Darbe for a party rally to be held on October 12. 

The iron frame of the flex came in contact with the overhead electric wire and Hamza got the electric shock as he was holding the same. The others, who were with Hamza, escaped unhurt, sources said.

A case has been registered at Puttur town police station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Police have arrested a person on charges of spreading malicious comments against the Karnataka government staff engaged in the prevention of the novel coronavirus in the district.

City Police Commissioner Harsha on Tuesday tweeted, “One Nizam has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on court orders for spreading malicious content on social media through a platform idunammadhwani.. regarding various government functionaries engaged in anti-COVID-19 work and spreading rumours.”

Udupi, May 29: As many as 15 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in Udupi district today. 

11 among the new 15 covid-19 patients are males and four are females. The patients also include two children aged 6 and 7.

All of them are said to be Maharashtra returnees. 

With this, the total confirmed covid-19 cases in the district mounted to 164.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar's daughter Aishwarya and Cafe Coffe Day founder late VG Siddhartha's son, Amarthya Hegde got engaged at SM Krishna Residence, Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru on Monday.
Only family members were present in the event. Amarthya Hegde is also the grandson of former Union Minister SM Krishna.
Last year in July, the body of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) founder Siddhartha was unearthed on the banks of Netravati river.
