Qalco Floodlit Cricket Tournament-2014 gets underway

Doha, Jun 10: The Qalco Floodlit Cricket Tournament 2014 got off to a flying start with Qalco having an easy victory over Qatar Quarry. Mr. Fawad Rana, Managing Director of Qalco inaugurated the tournament in which the eight top teams from the first Hannan Cricket Tournament qualified for this knockout tournament.

Winning the toss Qalco elected to field. Batting first Qatar Quarry scored a respectable 101 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Manju was the top scorer for Qatar Quarry scoring 17 runs with 2 sixes. Ajit 16 runs with a six, Jawed 13 runs with a six, Hemantha 10 runs with a six and Madhusudan 10 runs with a six each contributed to the total.

Majeed, Zaheer, Ifzal and Pali took a wicket each while there were 4 run outs.

In reply Qalco easily scored 102 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 9.4 overs. Majeed scored a quick fire 21 runs with 3 sixes, he earned man of the match award for his knock . Other contributors were Inthiqab 19 runs with 2 sixes, Buddika 16 runs with 2 sixes Aftab and Abbas scored 12 runs with 1 six each. Jawad and Manju took a wicket each.

In the Division-II Match, MIC Defeated UP XII by 20 runs.

Electing to bat MIC scored 95 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Amit was the top scorer with 23 runs including 2 sixes, assisted by Rizwan Pawne – 16 runs with a six and Anwar 12 runs with a six and a boundary. Arshad took 2 wickets, while Obaid and Sabir took a wicket each.

As one of the MIC players left the ground and was not available for fielding, UP XII’s target was reduced by 13 runs, i.e. they needed to score 83 runs to win the match.

However UP XII were all out for 62 runs in 10.5 over losing by 20 runs. Arfat was the only batsman to reach double figures being run out for 23 runs with 3 sixes.

Prasanna, Amit and Baqer took a wicket each while there were 6 run outs. Amit was awarded man of the match.

The finals of the tournament is shceduled to be played on Sunday the 15th of June.

Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.

Manama: Kannada Sangha Bahrain President Mr. Pradeep Shetty and Vice President of Bahrain's prestigious KHK HEROES Foundation Mohammed Mansoor on Monday, May 11, met The Second Secretary (Consular & CW) of the Embassy of India, Bahrain Mr. P. K. Chowdhury in the Indian Embassy. 

The situation, problems and relief of Indians and Kannadigas residing in Bahrain during the COVID 19 Pandemic was discussed in detail. The distribution of food (dry ration) kits, as well as those seeking repatriation, was also discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the repatriation of distressed Kannadigas, the Second Secretary said that though the number of Kannadigas who wish to return home is not much compared to the rest of the states, still Embassy is compiling all the information and will do the needful soon. 

Mr. Shetty and Mr. Mansoor told the Second Secretary that those who are in problem can contact them and they are ready to do their best.
