Qatar: Grand finale of ICC One Communication Championship-2014 held

Doha: Yet another eventful page is turned in the history of ICC ONE Toastmasters Club. The Grand Finale of ICC One Communication Championship 2014 was conducted on November 14, at the Giwana Ballroom, Radisson Blu Hotel.

ICC ONE Toastmasters has been conducting this event continuously for the past 11 years as a token of its social commitment towards promoting education and public speaking to the residents of Qatar. The 2014 Championships comprised of three segments – the Juniors speech contest featuring contestants from Schools and Gavel clubs and the Humorous and International speech contests open to all residents of Qatar of age 18yrs and above. All three categories attracted many enthusiastic applicants. Eliminations were conducted in the months of October and November and 6 finalists per category were shortlisted for the Grand Finale.

The first segment, the Schools / Gavel Clubs Speech contest was anchored by Nevine Kamel, a seasoned HR professional, a freelance Trainer, Coach & Public speaker. The mesmerizing event showcased confident teenagers with vibrant oratory skills. It was indeed a treat to watch the high schoolers oozing with energy and speaking on topics that were diverse and truly inspirational. The 1st Place winner, Sara Salah El Amin from Shantinekaten School, spoke on the topic ‘Live in the Moment’ and exhorted the audience to stop waiting for tomorrows and live life now. The 2nd place winner, Shwetha Grace Eapen representing ICC Gavels, spoke on - ‘In the company of Lions’. She urged the audience to seek the company of great minds because we become like the people we hang around with. The third place winner was Vikram Kumaresan representing DPS-MIS. In his speech titled ‘The war’, he stressed on the values of a being an optimist in life. The audience popular poll was won by Ms Shwetha Grace Eapen.

The second segment, the Humorous Speech contest had the Contest Chair in Issam Alameh, an IT Professional who kept the audience regaled with witty comments. The Speakers had the audience pealing with laughter at the funny stories and comical body language weaved around hilarious topics. The 1st Place Winner was Surendra Kumar who narrated amusing family stories on the theme ‘I Love you’. The second prize Winner was Deepak Shivankar, who under the topic ‘My Mysterious Mentors’ comically presented the ordeal of training under mentors. The 3rd place winner, Jithu John Koshy, jestfully portrayed the stress of daily routines under the topic ‘The Last Day’. This segment was truly the most entertaining round for the audience. The audience popular poll also was won by Surendra Kumar.

The much awaited final segment, the International Speech contest, was the crème de la crème of the evening and was anchored by Euphracia Kalii, an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist in the Technical department of Qatar Airways. The 6 eloquent finalists vied with each other to educate the audience with their unique perspectives. The 1st Place winner, Diego Denzil Fernandes, with the speech title ‘10 minutes in my busy life’ spoke powerfully on how fatigue can be a killer and how it is important to find 10 mins. to pull over and rest before driving on while exhausted. The second place winner was Nerieza Manosca S Dilmao. In her speech titled ‘The wave that was’, she movingly depicted the unbreakable human spirit in the face of calamity. The third prize winner, Omar Mohammed Fayyad, spoke on ‘The power of influence is in our hands’. He persuaded the audience to be a spark of influence in the world as one little influence starts off a chain which touches many hearts. The audience popular vote was also won by Mr Diego Denzil Fernandes.
The gala evening culminated with a spectacular Award ceremony wherein the Chief Guest was Capt. Ravi Kumar, Defence Attache at the Indian Embassy and Guests of Honour were Hassan Chougule, Businessman, Educationist and Social Activist and James John, Deputy General Manager of Gulf Times. Besides Trophies, Winners carried away Cash Awards and household gifts. Winners in both Humorous and International categories were awarded Qr.5,000/- each while the Junior Champion collected Qr.2,000/-.

The success of the event can be credited to the tireless effort of the organizers and the diligent performance of anchors and role players. The hunt for the champion speakers of Qatar for the year 2014 was thus successfully closed. ICC ONE TOASTMASTERS club commits itself to continuing this challenging quest for years to come.

On Friday, February 7, 2020 Tulu Koota Kuwait under the leadership of Dynamic President Ramesh S Bhandary and coordination of Sports Secretary Roshan Quadras  held its annual picnic at Mishref Garden, Kuwait.  Although slight drizzling on the   previous night had caused great concern amongst committee members , yet the  windy and dusty weather did not lessen the enthusiasm and excitement of Tulu Koota Kuwait members.  Over 1000 members enjoyed the fun filled day.

MC of the occasion Mr. Manoj Shetty & Ms. Priya Devadiga welcomed the audience and Chief guests for the event Dr Jeshna Rajan- Badr Al Samaa Clinic, Dr. S.M.Hyther Ali- Chairman of TVS Hyder Group, Mr. John Simon- Group Manager for Corporate Sales and Event Marketing ,  Al Mulla Exchange, Mr Pradeep, owner of Geetherb medicine and Mr. Lokesh & Team from NH Assets.  The program kicked off with Kuwait & Indian National anthem. The guests in their address to audience, praised Tulu Koota Kuwait unwavering efforts to unite people through language, and also the solid philanthropy and charity work being carried by the association was applauded. The presidents  of different South Canara  association in Kuwait were also amongst invited dignitaries for the event, and were welcomed with flower bouquet. This was followed by the release of “ Tulu Nada Jathre flyer”.

Tulu Koota Kuwait President, Ramesh S Bhandary in his speech welcomed the dignitaries and emphasized the significance of the annual picnic gathering. He further elaborated on the innovative concept of “Tulunada Jathre ” being initiated this year, and requested fervent support and participation from all members in  this wonderful program scheduled to be held on Friday,  March 27, 2020 at Indian Central School Indoor Ground Abbasiya. 

As part of days celebration TKK’s Flag hosting  was done  by President , Ramesh Bhandary. “Go Green Global concept” by Tulu Koota members   was the highlight of the inaugural ceremony.  This act was directed by talented committee member Mr. Suresh Salian.

The act beautifully conveyed the message of sustainability, and climate change and raised awareness on how to fight it, how to live green.  The traditional inaugural of the sports event was done by breaking of coconut by Sports Secretary Mr. Roshan Quadras.  TKK First Lady Mrs Anitha Ramesh Bhandary led the sports march holding the traditional torch followed by the  Go Green Global team holding different country flags with plant pots, followed by President, committee members and Sponsors of TKK. The president officially inaugurated the Sports Event by officially lighting the Sports Lamp.

After the inauguration ceremony, the members and kids actively participated in day long sports games and activities meticulously planned out by the Sports committee  for different age groups.  Passing the parcel, Veggies collection, ball bucket, veg shopping , macroni race, hockey, kutti donne, sack race, lagori,  breaking the pot , tyre race, slow cycling, water ballon race, musical chair , kabbadi, volley ball, throw  ball , tug of war, housie housie, kept the members and their families  engaged and entertained. The winners for the competitions were awarded with trophies towards the end of the exciting day.

Delicious and authentic Mangalorean lunch for the event was served by Oriental Restaurant Kuwait.  Sounds and lights support for the event was provided by Anand, while the beautiful moments were captured in camera by Mr.Blen Dsouza and Mr.Rajesh Devadiga

Tulu Koota Kuwait takes this opportunity to thank its committee members, members and volunteers for their dedicated efforts and team spirit and active participation that eventually lead to the huge success of Family Picnic 2020. Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.

Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Central Committee, Saudi Arabia organized Republic Day program at AlRyan Policlinic Restaurant Auditorium, Dammam on 25th January 2020.

Abdul Waris, Former Chairman of Indian International School Dammam Inaugurated the program.

Wasim Rabbani, president of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Central Committee Presided over the program.

Mansoor Shah KFUPM, Indian Social Forum Delhi Zone President, Dr. Fayaz Ahmed from King Fahad University Hospital, Amir Moulavi, Executive Member,  India Fraternity Forum (IFF) Dammam, Nasir Koduvalli, Indian Social Forum, Kerala State President, Dammam, Sharief, Social Forum Karnataka State President, DammamJahangir Moulavi, Tamilnadu State president delivered speech at the program. Mohammed Firoz, Indian Social Forum  President, Jubail read the preamble of constitution. 

 Nameer Kerala , Secretary, Social Forum Central Committee welcomed guests while Ashraf Karnataka, General Secretary, Central Committee delivered vote of thanks and Tahir Hyderabad, Secretary, Indian Social Forum, Central Committee coordinated the program.
