Qatar: KMCA hosts 4th Tipu Sultan Cup cricket tourney

Qatar: Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA) hosted fourth Tipu Sultan Cup Cricket Tournament 2017 for 4 days from 27th to 30th March 2017 at Old Ideal Indian School Ground. The colourful opening ceremony started in a grand manner, with Nilangshu Dey, President, Indian Sports Centre as the chief guest.

Padmashri Mariyappan Thangavelu, Indian Paralympic Athelete Gold Medallist and Satyanarayana Shimoga, Indian National Team Coach – Paralympic Champions were the guests of honour.

Abdulla Monu Mohidin, President, KMCA in welcomed the gathering in a warm and cordial manner. He expressed his sense of keen happiness to all those who spared their valuable time to witness the tournament and encourage the players. Nilangshu Dey in his brief speech touched upon the various sports activities happening in vibrant Qatar and commended KMCA’s efforts in taking this to further heights.

Niyaz Ahmed, Ex-President of KMCA & Head of Advisory Board, amidst thunderous applause, introduced the Guests of Honour, highlighted the achievements of PadmashriMariyappanThangavelu and impressed the audience by stating that we able-bodied persons to learn lessons and imbibe the spirit from the Gold Medalist Mariyappan. Niyas added that he too is honoured and proud to read out the welcome address and to introduce Mariyappan to those who were present, though in fact, the gold medalist need no introduction as he is known world-wide by now. Ismail Abobakker, Coordinator (Logistics), KMCA introduced Satyanarana Shimoga, Indian National Team Coach to the audience, which was quite impressive.

Saquib Raza Khan, in his own inimitable style, anchored and also one of the commentators. He did his job in a splendid way to attract and retain the interests of spectators and onlookers, cracking jokes in between.

The closing ceremony and grand finale was held on 30th March with Mrs. Milan Arun, President Indian Cultural Centre Qatar and several key office bearers from Indian Cultural Centre, Sports Organizations from various States in India, Sri Lankan Cricketers, cricket veterans from neighboring GCC countries too participated that added flavor to the function.

Unbelievable yet true; Both the opening and closing ceremonies were awesome, glittering with the arrival of Chief Guests in a convoy of vehicles that include the breath-taking Rolls Royce, participants dressed like warriors representing Tipu Sultan to coincide with the 4th Tipu Sultan Cup Cricket Tournament. It looks like a dream; yet it is a reality; 80 flagmen waving colourful flags, enticing and attractive 10 BMWs, and awesome Rolls Royce. It is not a ground; it was converted to a wonderland. Everyone was excited and cheered the participants in the Cricket Tournament by loud applause, whistles, and dancing to say the least. Participant teams include Karnataka Sangha Qatar, Tulu Kota, South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association, Bunts Qatar, Social Forum – India Qatar, Hidaya Foundation, Qatar Karnataka Friends and last but not the least KMCA.

During the closing ceremony, Chief Guest Mrs. Milan Arun, President, Indian Cultural Centre expressed her support on behalf of Indian Cultural Centre to all sports activities and look forward to more such occasions and opportunities. The Guests of Honour for the Closing Ceremony were Mr. Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari, President, Qatar Volleyball Association and Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Youth Empowerment, Sports & Fisheries, Government of Karnataka. Fayaz Ahmed, Treasurer, KMCA introduced Mr. Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari and welcomed him. Niyaz Ahmed ex-President KMCA & Head of Advisory Board introduced and facilitated Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj. Mr. Pramod said that while religion and politics divide people, sports and cultural activities unite people in all walks of life. It is therefore imperative that all of us live in harmony together by engaging ourselves in various sports and cultural activities to have a vibrant social life.

Mr. Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari stated that he is ever ready and willing to extend support as required for development of sports which is gaining momentum in Qatar. Mrs. Aisha Rafique, Vice President, KMCA thanked the sponsors for their spontaneous support and encouragement which enabled KMCA to organize this tournament and look forward to their and others continuous support, encouragement and patronage.

There were hectic moments and all the spectators were anxious when they witnessed the semi-finals that took place between Bunts Qatar VS Hidaya Foundation and Tulu Kotta VS KMCA. Anxious moments gripped the audience and the players when KMCA had a fierce fight with Bunts Qatar to win the Trophy. At last, KMCA won the Final and bagged the coveted 4th Tip Sultan Cup Cricket for 2017. All with no exception, players, spectators and others who witnessed this exciting and exhilarating concluding match jumped in joy and created a happy situation by dancing, beating the drums, waving the flags and enjoying every moment.

Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.

Kuwait: The Covid-19 pandemic has pushed the whole world into a difficult situation and the situation of Indians in Kuwait is not any different. Many people have lost their jobs, have no salary, are deprived of food and are not able to pay rent. The appalling conditions of labourers, domestic workers, taxi drivers and low waged earners don’t seem to end in Kuwait. 

At this trying situation when many people were even afraid of leaving their houses because of coronavirus, Suresh S. Rao Neramballi, volunteer of the Food Kit Distribution at the ICSG (Indian Community Support Group) has helped many tremendously. He was ready to go around delivering food kits at any time possible by his car. However, after Kuwait imposed a full curfew from 11th May 2020, no one could take out their vehicles unless they had a curfew pass. 

This did not stop Mr. Suresh Neramballi, who then borrowed a bicycle from a friend and ended up going around in the cycle delivering the food kits in curfew break time (4:30pm to 6:30pm) to all those who registered in the ICSG website. This selfless service surely commands appreciation and applause. Mr. Suresh Neramballi has been a light for many families and bachelors in Kuwait and will surely garner the blessings of them who have been able to eat at this time.

He was also the one who could deliver the food kits to many Indian Muslim maids, bachelors, laborers and families previous day and right on the day of EID, as they were not able to go shopping for their groceries for EID, due to the curfew. They blessed him in EID dua. 

Mr. Suresh Neramballi hails from Mangaluru, India and is an Engineer in the Oil sector company in Kuwait. He has been dedicated to social service, achieved 'Aryabhata International Award' for his Kannada Service and Social service, served in many Associations and Distributor of Kannada and Tulu Movies in Kuwait. He wholeheartedly thanks the people and government of Kuwait for his bread and butter.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
