Qatar: Mangalore Cricket Club holds blood donation camp

Doha: Mangalore Cricket Club, a Qatar based socio-cultural organization reached out to its community in a noble initiative organizing a blood donation camp on December 2nd 2016 at the Hamad Medical Corporation Blood Bank unit. This camp not only brought all its members but also different nationalities together to join this noble cause as a holistic service to the community and Qatar, This was the 6th blood donation camp organized by MCC and witnessed a huge turnout of donors from morning 8 am to 2.30 pm.

Riana Pinto, General Secretary extended a general welcome and invited President Prakash Noronha to address the gathering. Prakash Noronha welcomed the gathering and thanked all who attended in big numbers for their noble gesture. He informed them by donating blood they are helping their fellow brethren in saving their life as today it may be others need but tomorrow it may be our need. So donor someday can be a beneficiary another day. He then introduced Mangalorean Community doctor Dr. Atlantic D’Souza, Neurology Consultant at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar to speak on the benefits of blood donation. Treesa Goveas, Membership Secretary presented him with a flower bouquet.

Dr. Atlantic spoke on the noble deeds of blood donations and various aspects and advantages of blood donation. One donor’s blood can help save many lives as well as can treat many diseases. A donor too becomes unknowingly aware of his health conditions and can take precautions for his health benefit. He emphasized that it is harmless to donate blood by healthy adults and stressed the need to take the required simple precautions. He too joined other donors in donating blood and also encouraged the volunteers to regularly donate blood and appreciated the efforts put by MCC in organizing the campaign.

Committee members took a good initiative in inviting many of their friends, colleagues, company people to join this drive and witnessed a good registration of 106 volunteers out of which 66 were successful in donating blood after their checkups which was a good record of donors in MCC history. All were provided with snacks and juice. Though Registration desk was closed by 11 am donors remained till 2.30 p.m until all finished donating blood.

Prominent members from the community Karnataka Sangha President Madhu, Senior Vice President Venkata Rao, ICBF Past President & Representative of NHRC Arvind Patil, TuluKoota President Ravi Shetty, Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association President Niyaz Ahmad, Bunts Qatar President Navaneeth Shetty, KSQ Advisory board Chairman and Past President Deepak Shetty, SKMWA Past President Abdul Majeed, Past Vice President of KSQ Nagesh Rao, Excom Member of Bunts Qatar Santosh Shetty etc too attended this drive in support of this noble initiative.

Hamad Medical Corporation then presented Mangalore Cricket Club with a certificate in appreciation of this drive and appreciation certificates to all donors.

MCC President Prakash Noronha thanks all committee members for their strong support in this drive and sincerely thanks the company officials of Integral Food Services, Dandy Company Ltd., Space Trading and Integral Uniforms for sending in their employees, also all MCC members, volunteers and donors for this noble deed. Through their support, we were able to witness a successful campaign and created a history in the club of highest donors.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) organized Blood Donation Camp at Latifa Hospital, Oud Mehta Dubai on April 23rd, 2020 in association with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and with support from Community Development Authority (CDA) Government of Dubai.

Blood Donation Drive started in the morning at 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Around 48 people participated in this drive and donated blood to support the Dubai Blood Bank.

A potential shortage of blood for transfusions has been occurred due to a significant reduction in voluntary blood donations during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic, health services are now running with shortages of blood availability. To support the DHA Blood Bank KSCC taken initiative to ensure that blood donations continued and are safe for both the donor and the recipient.

After taking safety precaution and safe distance during the blood donation donors feeling happy and honored to participate and donate blood at this pandemic situation. Club Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi was also present during this event.

KSCC appreciated all the blood donors and be grateful to Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Community Development Authority (CDA), and Government of Dubai for their association for this event. They also thanked the volunteers and supporters.

Doha: Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF) once again set an example that no caste, creed, language and religion comes as hurdle for their humanitarian services and helped to perform last rites of Ramesh who committed suicide in Doha-Qatar.

45-year-old Ramesh son of K. Nagan hailing from Panikulam, Thrissur district in Kerala, who was working as a tailor committed suicide in his house at Ruwias in Qatar on 30th May 2020.

On hearing this news, some of his friends in Kearla informed Mr. Shihab who is also from Thrissur and a member of QISF and the same was brought to the notice of QISF humanitarian team head Mr. Abdul Latheef Madikeri and Basheer Ahmed of Tamil Nadu.

Immediately, the QISF team intervened and contacted the family members of the deceased in India and discussed the matter and consequences of sending the body back home to India in this pandemic COVID 19 situation.

Considering the prevailing situation, the family members gave the consent to bury the body in Qatar itself.

QISF team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation.

Finally, the body of the deceased was buried in Qatar on 7th June 2020 and the copies of all the relevant documents have been handed over to the family members.

The family members of the deceased thanked and applauded the leaders and all the members of QISF for their effective and on time humanitarian service rendered even in this pandemic crisis and having no bias.
