Kozhikode, Aug 9: Even as the furious downpour continued in Kerala and caused landslides and widespread flooding since Thursday, Meteorological Department issued a red alert in nine districts of the state on Friday.
Red alert has been issued in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Alapuzha is Orange. Its Yellow alert only in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, MET in a release said.
The colour warning symbolises the intensity of the rains. Orange alert denotes heavy to very heavy (H-VH) rains and red alert symbolises extremely heavy rains. The intensity denoted by Yellow is Heavy (H) and Green symbolises Low to Moderate (L-M).
The department also issues probability of their prediction. The probability of MET prediction for today is put at "Very Likely", which means the chance of happening between 50 to 75 percent.
