Rat fever: Health Ministry team visits hospital

Kasargod, September 26: Due to continuous death by rat fever, a medical team of the Union Ministry of Health on Sunday visited the general hospital here as well as the district hospital in Kanhangad.

Deputy DMO Dr. Vimal Raj, Doctors Krishna Naik, Sunil Chandran, M Kunhiraman and Jamaludeen were part of the Central team. The team visited the district hospital and also some areas affected by rat fever.

The team consisting Dr. U V S Rana and Dr. Amith Karat visited the patients admitted at the general hospital here due to fever.

Meanwhile, four more patients died on Sunday while the medical team was visiting the district taking the total deaths in the district due to fever to 22 during the past two months.

Kallalan,51, of Kundamkuzhy, Chandran,45, of Padannakkad, Krishnan, 50 Karinthalam died due to fever while Siddique, a two and- half- year old boy died of jaundice in Uduma.

Two more patients Satheesan, 46 of Melparamba and Narayanan,35 of Badiadka suffering from suspected rat fever were admitted to the General Hospital here.

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Saturday, April 11, welcomed the State government’s decision to permit fishing during the lockdown that’s now extended till April 30.

“We welcome the Centre’s decision to permit fishing during the lockdown. This directive comes as a huge relief for the fishing community,” Poojary told newsmen here.

Poojary informed that 14,000 boats will be deployed for fishing. Keeping the need for social distancing in mind only five crew members will be allowed on a boat. The boats can set sail in the morning and should return by evening.

Mangaluru, Jan 25: Hotelier Samtappa reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Kadaba taluk in the district on police said on Saturday.

The deceased was running a hotel named Hotel Samtappa here.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: A case has been registered against a man for spreading communal hatred by sharing objectionable and sensitive posts on social media, Commissioner of Police Harsha said here on Saturday.

In Twitter Mr Harsha wrote, ” We have registered a case against a person claiming himself as Vishwa, Mangalore for making Statements promoting enmity and hatred between communities on social media with crime number 46/20 at the south police station under 505 IPC.”

He further warned, “We will not spare anyone trying to disturb communal harmony in the district.”
