Bengaluru, Apr 11: The senior leaders of BJP are reportedly considering to field a member of former chief minister S M Krishna’s family in the Karnataka assembly polls, in an effort to retain him in the saffron party. Rumours are doing rounds that Krishna has threatened quit BJP and return to Congress for "neglecting" him.

Krishna, a Vokkaliga, who was chief minister from 1999 to 2004, quit the Congress in January 2017 and formally joined the BJP in March 2017. He did so claiming the Congress was "in a state of confusion" on whether it needed mass leaders or not. Since joining the BJP, Krishna, 85, has only been seen during a Parivartana Yatra in Mandya (January) and then at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Bengaluru (February).

"If Krishna's family members are willing to contest, the BJP is ready to give the ticket to any Assembly seat in either Mandya or Bengaluru," BJP leader and former deputy chief minister R Ashoka told reporters.

Krishna has two daughters - Shambhavi, who is married to liquor baron Vijay Mallya's stepbrother and Malavika, married to businessman V G Siddhartha. It may be recalled that Krishna had considered fielding Shambhavi in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

Ashoka stressed that Krishna was not leaving the BJP. "He is not in India right now, but I spoke to a friend of his. Krishna will come back on April 13 and we will discuss the election with him. Cent per cent, Krishna will not leave. He is committed to strengthen the party."

Gadag, Aug 1: A woman in Gadag district of Karnataka mortgaged her 'mangalsutra' to buy a television set for her children following the Karnataka government's decision to continue the classes through TV amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A resident of Radder Naganur village, Kasturi, who is also a mother of two, purchased a television set against her 'mangalsutra' for Rs 14,000. She bought the TV after her children's school teachers asked them to attend classes via the television set.

Kasturi said, "I can not send the children to the neighbours' house every day and it was necessary for them to study. We had no other option but to buy a TV set."

She said, "Both, my husband and I are daily wage workers and during coronavirus, we do not have work or money."

"I sold my 'mangalsutra' for Rs 20,000 and bought a TV for Rs 14,000," said Kasturi while happily adding, "Now, my kids can study at home itself."

Kasturi's daughter, Surekha said, "We did not have the TV for several months but now when we have it, we will study and get a bigger 'mangalsutra' for my mother."

Bengaluru, Jun 17: The Opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Wednesday strongly urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to desist from invoking amendment to the Land Reforms Act, saying it would make buying land easier for the corporate companies and the rich.

In a hard-hitting letter to the Chief Minister, a copy of which was released to the media, the Congress leader had urged to rescind the decision from amending to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act and also Agriculture Produces Marketing Committee Act.

Asserting that the state government's move was only intending to help to the land grabbers, Siddaramaiah, also the former chief minister, said easing of restrictions to buy land to the tune of over 216 acres per individual would sound a death knell to the farm sector.

Dammam, Feb 3: Harish Bangera, 32, who was arrested in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia more than a month ago after offensive Facebook post went viral, has remained incommunicado.

Bangera, who hails from Goyadibettu in Bijadi village of Kundapur taluk, Udupi district, was an air-conditioning technician for a company in Dammam, capital of Saudi's eastern province.

He was arrested on December 20, 2019 after he posted derogatory messages on Facebook against crown prince Mohammad bin Salman and went on to claim that a Ram temple will be built in the holy city of Makkah too just like in Ayodhya where the Babri mosque was demolished.

Fearing legal action, he later posted a video pleading for forgiveness. “I have committed a mistake. Please forgive me. I will never upload any such posts again," he is seen saying in the video.

After his arrest, his roommate, who happens to be a Pakistani, has reportedly made several attempt to contact him, but in vain. He also has approached many Indian and Saudi authorities in his bid to get Bangera out of prison, sources said.

The Saudi authorities have not even responded to the messages of Indian Ministry of External Affairs. "We've made many efforts to contact the Saudi authorities but they haven't responded,” MEA sources said.

There can be many such people in the Kingdom.

They should be identified and treated in the same way.

These are real terrorists, keep him few years in jail,  they should not be let free. Otherwise they will forget and commit again.

May God help us.
