Riyadh: KWAR organizes annual sports and cultural event

Riyadh, Apr 18: The Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) organised its annual sports and cultural event recently here.

Although, it was a low key affair, the members and KWAR’s well-wishers turned out in big numbers. The function was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the president Royston Prabhu, ex-president, an ardent supporter of KWAR Ramesh Shetty, general secretary Muzaffar Ali, treasurer Rajesh Kumar, joint secretary and BARSA president Mahesh Hegde and other office bearers.

Chief guest of the day was Dr Ashwin Shetty and guest of honor was Kingsley Fernandes, manager, Air India Riyadh. The function began with team sports events like men’s volleyball in which six teams participated and was won by Karnataka friends and the deserving Runners up were Udupi friends

In Women’s throw ball, which was the climax ofthe Sports Day,three teams participated in round robin, in which ‘Udi Udi’ team of Konkan Ghar lead by Anita Eric D'sa and BARSA of Bunts Association Riyadh lead by Dr Vanishree Santhosh Shetty reached the finals.

The final was a real treat to watch, which was a well fought game with tempers high on both sides, BARSA beat UDI UDI to claim the KWAR womens throw ball championship for the second year in succession. Udi Udi of Konkan Ghar was the runner up.

Many more games were arranged for Men and women as well as for children. For men, the main attraction was The Coconut Breaking Game and Tug of War. Tug of war was the main attraction for KWAR members, year after year they thoroughly enjoyed this sport. Both the teams fought hard but the winners were strong Jolly Boys and Udi Udi of Konkan Ghar team took the 2nd prize.

Many games for children and ladies were conducted by Amitha Prabhu and Shaila Salian, supported by other lady members. Newspaper race for ladies was fun to watch. Children and women took part in several games with great enthusiasm. It was a memorable sports day and all the members were very sportive throughout the sunny day. Young Health Engineers were assigned to monitor and keep the ground area clean.

The cultural event started in the evening at 5:30 pm.A good number of guests were welcomed by KWAR’s treasurer Rajesh Kumar. KWAR’s secretary Muzzaffar Ali briefed about KWAR’s activities for the year 2013/2014. Chief guest of the day, Dr Ashwin Shetty addressed the gathering with a few encouraging words, stressed the need for Unity. KWAR’s Cultural secretaries,

Suresh Raj and Prakash Shetty was instrumental in presenting the audience with a variety of cultural programmes by Karavali Childrens Dance . The highlight of the cultural events was the wonderful presentation by the Murdeshwar Group showcasing their traditional wedding ceremony, singing and mimicry by Sunil poojary from Udupi, Nazeer , Baskar and a 45 minute nonstop magical Show by Cyres was a super hit.

Mementos, medals and certificates for cooking competition, volleyball, throw ball, tug of War, breaking the coconut was given away to the winners by the president. All the participating members and children were awarded medals.

KWAR takes this opportunity to thank all our donors, well-wishers and all the members who over-whelmingly supported us to make this Sports and Cultural event a Grand Success. The programme was well compered by KWAR’s cultural secretary, anactive member Prakash Shetty who enthralled the crowd with his command of Karavali Culture.

KWAR strives hard for the unity and strength as well as the welfare of the people from Karavali region which will not be possible without the support of all members and their families. KWAR thanks all the executive members of KWAR committee for working overtimefor the success of KWAR’s mega event. The programme ended at about 9pm with the recitation of National Anthem.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Dubai: A non-profitable social organization, KSCC is delivering a great service to the community during this pandemic situation.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club is a civil organization registered under Community Development Authority (CDA) involved in implementing various UAE government initiatives, blood donation drives, health campaigns, sport events, charity works, awareness programs and much more.

KSCC is currently actively liaising with Dubai government authorities in discharging the needs and requirements of the people in these challenging covid-19 pandemic times. It is also involved the activities such as logistics, coordinating stores, mobilizing isolation centers, equipping quarantine facilities and volunteering services.

During these testing times, KSCC is also facilitating the Guidance to the general public, follow-up up to 122 covid positive cases, counselling the affected, assisting the references and providing the ever-necessary emotional support by setting up a team of 24 reserved persons for call center helplines.

As per the request from DHA (Dubai Health Authority) KSCC has successfully organized the blood donation drive and donated upto 141 units of blood with the help of KSCC members & supporters.

Apart from above, KSCC is also engaged in serving needy by distributing the food provisional kit (Yestahloon) from the very 1st day of lockdown till day by their special task force team under guidelines of CDA, and also taking into consideration the month of Ramadan, team is successfully distributing Iftar food & provision kit with the help of donors.

In the 1st Phase, KSCC covered 2421 beneficiaries by providing 440 provisional food kits, 435 food pack and 529 Iftar kits.

As per the CDA guidelines, club is also engaged in following up the health condition of senior citizens living in UAE.

KSCC special team is also engaged in clearing documentation and formalities related to dead body repatriation until its final procedures and handing over to relatives with help of UAE governments authorities. Total 5 dead bodies are repatriated in their 1st phase of service.

KSCC is also having a center controlled special task team to assist all above activities during the covid-19 pandemic to continue the services to general public.

KSCC thanks all Government authorities, Members in different task team, supporters and Sponsors company MAERSK, MALABAR GOLD & DIAMOND and TAMIL ENTREPRENEUR for their support and also request extend their support to consolidate the above demanding service and deliver our best possible assistance not only because it is the month of Ramadan, but also our responsibility to reach out to the poor and needy, during this fight against Covid-19.

Kuwait: Friday Forum Kuwait conducted its 12th inter-school Islamic Elocution Competition at Hotel Rajadhani Palace, Khaitan on 1st January 2020. 

The competition, which was held in the senior and junior categories had participation from 15 Indian Schools across Kuwait comprising of 43 students. In the senior category, Ayisha Wafiya of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Efrem Joseph of Indian Community School, Amman won the second prize. 

In the junior category, Hima Jameela of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Fadhel Kandapath of Fahaheel Al Wataniya Indian School won the second prize. Nawaal Yaseen Ebrahim of Indian Community School (SR), Salmiya and Rhruthunanda of Indian Learners Own Academy, Abbasiya won the consolation prizes in senior and junior categories respectively.

This year, the event was fully conducted by the ladies wing of Friday Forum. Dr. Thasneem Amir, Ibtisam Basheer, Toast Masters Ola Rasheed, Fatma Abduhedeid, Shazia Thabassum and Marium Rangat were the judges for the competition in senior and junior categories. The event started with the Qira’at by Saneera Riyas, followed by welcome speech by Dr. Sajna Mohammed. 

The prizes were distributed to winners by Shahina Mansoor, Femitha Faseeh, Dr.Thasneem Amir, Dr. Sajna Mohammed, Zeenath Yacoub, Safna Sayam and Saneera Riyas. The Souvenir for the program - “INSPERIA 2020”- was released during the event by the chief editor Farha Abdul Rahman. The program was compered by Thanveera Noushad and the program convenor Subeana Shabeer conveyed the vote of thanks.
