RPF constables save woman's life who fell on platform

Hubli, Aug 4: A woman's life was saved by two constables of Railway Protection Force (RPF) after she slipped and fell on the platform while boarding Hampi express at Munirabad Railway station on Saturday.

A press note from the South Western Railway said, "Attempting to board the running train, a woman slipped and was rolling on the platform. Seeing this, constables Yunus and Prem Kumar got down from the moving train and pulled the lady passenger away from falling down and stabled her. Meanwhile, the lady constable pulled the chain and brought the train to halt."

The note said that the lady passenger got injured in the incident. She was taken to Hosapete city in the same train escorted by lady constable and then shifted to a private hospital by ambulance.

The woman is out of danger and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, the note added.

Karwar, Mar 19: Four drug peddlers were arrested on Thursday and 2.68 Kg of brown sugar worth Rs 2 Crore was seized from them while they were smuggling the banned drug by road from Yellapura to Ankola.

Police identified the arrested persons as Narayan (35), Chandrahas Gunaga (29), Veerabhadra Hegade (43) and Praveen Bhat (30).

Police have registered a case and investigations are ongoing.

Bengaluru, Jul 19: A man protested in front of Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's residence on Saturday alleging lack of medical care claimed the life of his one-month-old infant girl, police said on Saturday.

Venkatesh sat with the baby's photograph in front of the Chief Minister's house, saying the girl developed health issues on July 11 and he rushed her to a hospital, but it turned him away, the police said.

He said he had approached about a dozen hospitals and all of them refused to provide the baby any medical care. Eventually, the baby died.

This forced Venkatesh to hold a protest to draw the Chief Minister's attention to the issue, the police said.

The demonstration drew public attention and a few people joined him in the protest, they said.

Karwar, May 29: A five-month-old baby girl was discharged from Kasturba Institute of Medical Sciences (KIIMS), Mangaluru after her successful recovery from Covid-19 on Friday.

The baby was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru in the third week of April for the treatment of epilepsy and on May 8, the baby, her parents tested positive for Covid-19 and they were also admitted. It is said that they contracted the virus from their 18-year-old relative.

Although the parents were discharged from KIMS on May 23, since the baby had epilepsy, doctors continued the treatment for 19 days.
