Rs 1700-cr invested to rebuild Kodagu from two back-to-back calamities

Madikeri, Sept 22: This year, the Kodagu district administration has estimated that Rs 1,700 crore was needed for rebuilding Kodagu from two back-to-back calamities.

Coffee growers in Kodagu are staring at yet another difficult year and may end up with recurring distress from last week’s flood and landslips, district officials sources told UNI.

Rain fury from the start of this month has destroyed plantations and incessant rainfall has resulted in extensive berry-dropping. In the worst cases, there has been destruction of entire estates. The exact extent of damage to the standing crop is yet to be assessed, but according to initial estimates of the Kodagu district administration, 1,02,034 hectares of coffee estates have been damaged. The crop loss is pegged at Rs 53 crore.

Kasaragod, Apr 1: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday announced a special action plan for Kasargod district where more people testing positive to the Coronovirous.

"The northern most district of the State has become the hot bed of Coronavirus infection with the maximum number of positive cases confirmed in Kerala," the Chief Minister told a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

“A special action plan will be implemented in Kasargod. Currently, Kasargod district has the maximum number of positive cases and also the highest number of people under hospital observation. Data from the panchayats in the district will be used to test people with symptoms and also to identify people in contact with them," he said.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: A petition has been filed in Karnataka High Court to transfer Amulya Leona case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). She raised pro-Pakistan slogans at an anti-CAA rally on February 20 at Freedom Park.

The petition, filed by advocate Vishal Raghu, blamed the probe team for not filing chargesheet on time and suggested the state government to approach the higher court against bail granted to Amulya Leona.

On June 11, she was granted conditional bail by the Bengaluru civil court.

She was charged with sedition for her actions in the presence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

The court granted bail after hearing the bail application. Amulya's advocate on behalf of the petitioner said, "the petitioner is just a 19-year-old lady and she is studying in a private college in the Bengaluru. She shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' but she never mentioned Pakistan as her country."

Mangaluru, April 3: A police officer in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district got injured on Friday after unidentified youth pelted stones at him.

The incident took place when the cop stopped them from entering into the state from Kerala in the view of nationwide lockdown. He was later administered medical aid.
