RSS ideologue says BJP can now tackle Ram Mandir, Article 370

May 20, 2014

New Delhi, May 20: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) getting majority in the Lok Sabha on its own, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) now wants the party to take up its key issues - Ram temple in Ayodhya and Article 370 that had to be abandoned in the past - once again.Babri

RSS ideologue M.G. Vaidya has made these suggestions in his latest blog. He writes that the BJP had to compromise with its ideology in 1999 in the wake of its tie-up with parties such as National Conference to reach at a unanimous common minimum programme for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

However, there is no such compulsion after the BJP gaining majority its own and its pre-poll allies such as Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Shiv Sena, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and some Tamil Nadu-based parties should not have a problem, Vaidya writes in his Marathi blog Bhaashya. "In 1999, BJP could manage to get 182 seats and they needed support of 90 MPs from outside from parties like National Conference. So the common minimum programme had to be made with such parties and that became manifesto of the government. So the issues like Article 370 and construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya needed to be kept aside," the veteran writes.

"Now BJP had pre-poll alliance with TDP, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal and some parties in Tamil Nadu, so I don't think that they will have any problem with issues like Ram Mandir and Article 370. Though the alliance had projected issues of transparent government and development, Ram Mandir and Article 370 were part of the manifesto," he writes.

Vaidya says the BJP has got 282 seats now, which is 10 more than the required majority and the NDA has got 336 seats, if the party fulfils its promise of Ram Mandir and Article 370 without disturbing the Constitution and law, its partners should not have any issue, he opines.

The RSS ideologue goes on to target parties such as Trinamool Congress (TMC) and DMK for their regional bias and says Congress should be revived in these states for the "betterment of democracy".

"... Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and DMK in Tamil Nadu will only think about their states and they do not have any thoughts about foreign policy, especially regarding Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. So Congress's young leaders should come together and think about their defeat and there should be a change in organisational set up in Congress by allowing young leadership to prosper and come forward," Vaidya writes.

He goes on to credit RSS for BJP's thumping victory by playing an "important role in increasing vote percentage". At the same time, he says, the anti-BJP parties that bashed up the parent organisation of the saffron party in the run up to the general elections played "an equally important role".

New Delhi, May 31: Indian aviation regulator DGCA on Saturday said the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger flights will continue till midnight on June 30, hours after the Home Ministry announced fresh guidelines pertaining to the countrywide lockdown to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is once again reiterated that foreign airlines shall be suitably informed about the opening of their operations to or from India in due course," the circular issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.

Domestic passenger flight services resumed in the country from Monday after a hiatus of two months since the lockdown was announced on March 25, when all scheduled commercial passenger flights were suspended in India. International flights continue to remain suspended even now.

The Home Ministry on Saturday said 'Unlock-1' will be initiated in the country from June 8 under which the nationwide lockdown effectuated on March 25 will be relaxed to a great extent, including opening of shopping malls, restaurants and religious places, even as strict restrictions will remain in place till June 30 in the country's worst pandemic-hit areas.

International air travel shall remain suspended, the MHA order said, adding that a decision on when to resume it would be taken after making an assessment of the situation.

Chennai, Jul 1: In a case of cluster infection, 58 of the 65 mourners who attended the funeral a Central government official, Selvam, 56, who had worked in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and who died in Coimbatore and was brought for burial at Pannavaadi near Kolathur near Mettur in Salem district, tested positive for Covid-19, after three of them initially tested positive as they neither wore face masks not observed social distancing during the funeral, sources said.

Even as Dr Vijayabaskar said AIADMK MLA from Sriperumbudur, K Palani who tested positive for Covid-19 has recovered and will be discharged from hospital in couple of days, the MIOT International Hospital in Chennai said that the State Higher Education Minister, K P Anbazhagan, who initially showed no symptoms of coronavirus, subsequently tested positive in his second sample. He was now under treatment, his condition very stable and all his vital parameters are normal, MIOT said in a statement.

In what continues to be an unrestrained run, Tamil Nadu added its biggest day-wise spike so far of 3,943 positive Covid-19 cases, while another 60 deaths due to the novel coronavirus confirmed on Tuesday took the total death toll in the state to 1,201.

Of the new positive cases, Chennai alone accounted for its highest per-day jump of 2,393 positives with the number of persons tested today across Tamil Nadu put at 30,053. The total number os Covid-19 positive cases in the State as a whole till date is racing towards the one lakh mark at 90,167.

However, these outcomes are all on anticipated lines with the ICMR's push for more aggressive testing, even if they want lockdown controls to be now more focused at the district level, and want the Chennai model to be taken to the districts.

In this backdrop, the Health minister, Dr C Vijayabaskar chaired a detailed Covid review meeting this evening through video conference with all the hospital deans and other top officials on different facets of the disease prevention and control measures and the state's overall preparedness.

Chief Minister, Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami in a statement in Chennai assured that with the 'full lockdown' continuing in greater Chennai, parts of three neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram and parts of Madurai district till July 5, the free community kitchens for the elderly, disabled and destitute will continue to function in those places till July 5 and hygienically cooked food packets served to them.

Mumbai, Jun 30: Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday demanded a ban on NaMo app alleging that it was violating privacy of Indians.

The former Maharashtra chief minister also alleged that the NaMo app, the official mobile phone application of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, surreptitiously changes the privacy settings and sends data to third party companies in the US.

"Its good that Modi government is protecting privacy of 130 crore Indians by banning 59 Chinese apps. The NaMo app also violates privacy of Indians by accessing 22 data points, surreptitiously changing the privacy settings and sending data to third party companies in the US," Chavan tweeted.

India on Monday banned 59 apps with Chinese links, including hugely popular TikTok and UC Browser, saying they were prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and security of the country.

The move came against the backdrop of the border stand-off with China and recent clash in Galwan Valley in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed.
