Kozhikode, Oct 16: A 32-year-old Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader from Muzhappilangadu was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital with serious injuries on Sunday.
Police said Nidheesh, Alias Manikkuttan, suffered injuries on his feet and hands. Though he was initially taken to the Thalassery Government General hospital, doctors referred him to the Kozhikode Medical College.
Edakkad police said the youth was hacked by an eight-member gang, allegedly belonging to the Communist Party of India(Marxist) from the region.
The incident took place around 5.30 p.m. when Nidheesh, along with his friends, was fishing near the Muzhappilangadu beach in Kannur.
A case has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against eight CPI(M) workers. Police said the assailants escaped and no one was taken into custody. Security arrangements have been tightened.
