Mangaluru, Nov 29: Admitting a special leave petition, the Supreme Court has ordered to issue notice to Naresh Shenoy alias NaMo Naresh, the prime accused in the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.shenoycourt 3

Ramachandra Baliga, father of Vinayak Baliga, had filed special leave petition before the Supreme Court challenging a Karnataka High Court order that granted bail to NaMo Shenoy, the leader of Yuva Brigade (erstwhile NaMo Brigade).

High Court advocate N Ravindranath Kamath said that the matter was posted before judges Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice U U Lalit in the Supreme Court on Monday.

"Former High Court judge H N Nag Mohandas argued the case on behalf of Ramachandra Baliga. The court went through all the records and issued notices to Naresh Shenoy and the state government. The court also directed us to serve 'Dasti Notice' (serving the notice in person by hand) to Naresh Shenoy. We are taking the Dasti Service and once it is served, the matter will come before the court anytime within next two weeks," Kamath said.

The main contention of Baliga's father is that the investigation into his son's murder case has come to a standstill after Karnataka High Court granting bail to Naresh Shenoy. In his petition, Ramachandra Baliga has pleaded the Supreme Court to cancel the bail granted by the High Court to the main accused. His contention is that the main accused may attempt to tamper evidence when he is on bail, Kamath said.

Narendra Nayak, president of Deshapremi Sanghatanegala Okkuta that supports Baliga's family, said that several questions related to the murder of Vinayak Baliga are yet to be answered.

"Generally, the Supreme Court does not interfere in the bail given by a High Court, but here it is a question of bail been given even as the investigation is going on. I think it is a serious matter. Even as the final chargesheet is yet to be filed, the bail was granted. The family of Baliga and those supporting him are being threatened indirectly. Most of the accused are out of bail in the case. Several questions related to the case remain unanswered," Nayak said.

Vinayak Panduranga Baliga, 51, an electrical contractor and an RTI activist was hacked to death in front of his house in the city on March 21. The High Court had granted bail to Naresh Shenoy on September 15.

Shivamogga, Jun 20: Shivamogga District unit of Congress led by party veteran Kagodu Thimmappa staged a protest against state government's proposal to amend the land reform act, which will allow non-agriculturist to buy farmland.

The leaders of Farmers' Union (Raith Sangh) also staged a protest at Mahaveer circle and questioned CM's stand as he took oath in the name of farmers.

The district congress staged a protest at the premise of the Deputy Commissioner office in Shivamogga city.

The protesters termed Karnataka Government led by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa as an anti-farmers government.

According to Congress and Raith Sang, the proposed amendments to Karnataka State Land reforms act 1961 will cause harm to farmers.

"According to the proposed amendment, non-agriculturists like business tycoons can also purchase the agriculture land. This will help the businessman and will be harmful to farmers," protesters said.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday evening, former Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai said the dharna will be held before the statue of B R Ambedkar, near the Town hall, from 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs.

Mr Rai said allegations are being made that the trouble in the city on December 19 was orchestrated by certain political parties and leaders. The city police are also being accused of acting under the influence of the ruling government in invoking prohibitory orders to quell the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and later firing at the protesters that led to two deaths.

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai.

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”
