Mangaluru, Dec 2: Vigilantes belonging to saffron outfits have demoralized a college student by uploading her “confession video” on social media platforms wherein she was forced to speak about her relationship with a drug dealer.

It is believed that Aamir Suhail, in his 20s and hailing from Bunder area in Mangaluru, used to supply drugs to the girl, who is a student of a city based college. The girl fell in love with him. Several of their pictures had been put on social media.

The Mangaluru city police, who have been cracking the whip on drug peddling in the district, had recently arrested Aamir and recovered ganja and other narcotic substances from him.

Even after learning this, the girl, it is said, wanted to be with Aamir, who had faced boycott from local Muslims for being involved in anti-Islamic activities such as drug peddling.

The saffron outfits, on learning about the couple, approached her and reportedly convinced her to get back to her parents, after taking her for counselling.

Meanwhile, they secretly recorded a video in which the girl is heard saying she had realized her mistake and was ready to mend ways. The saffron members had then uploaded this video on social media.

The girl is now reportedly under depression. Several individuals and organisations have criticized the saffron outfits for insulating the girl by circulating her video. They also slammed the vigilantes for trying to give communal tinge to the affair.

Bengaluru, Apr 17: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday served a show cause notice to a Kannada news channel for broadcasting a programme in which it purportedly said that the Centre would 'air drop money' to the poor, owing to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The notice said that the channel was "spreading false information, creating panic and social unrest.

" The channel had allegedly aired a show titled, "Helicopter Money" on Wednesday which claimed that the Centre would drop money from helicopters during the lockdown period.

A Twitter user took a serious note of it and complained to the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar.

In its notice to the channel, PIB said, "You are hereby directed to show cause why your channel should not be taken out of air immediately. You are instructed to send your reply in this regard within 10 days of receipt of this notice."

Reacting to the notice, the management of the news channels said, "A programme which has been seen in bits and pieces and those who have not even seen the programme appears to have complained. Notice will be replied accordingly."
