salman forbesMumbai, Dec 12: Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan may be starting a new chapter of their friendship after an undeclared cold war, but the latter has dethroned the former by grabbing the top spot in Celebrity 100 list for 2014 of Forbes magazine.

Interestingly, Shah Rukh has fallen down from the number one spot to Salman's last year's number three spot. The decline is because of his disappearance from the screen for the preparation and shoot of his top grosser "Happy New Year".

Shah Rukh did some cameos in movies like "Youngistaan" and "Bhoothnath Returns" in the period considered for this list. Whereas, Salman was all over the entertainment sector with his films like "Kick" and "Jai Ho". In fact, his stint as the host of the reality TV show "Bigg Boss" is also credited for his upward swing.

Actress Deepika Padukone has reinforced women power in Bollywood by becoming the only woman mentioned in the top ten of the list. After featuring in movies like "Happy New Year" and "Finding Fanny", the actress is at the eighth spot in the list with earnings of Rs. 67.20 crore, said a statement.

The list is compiled by measuring money and fame, which includes estimated entertainment related earnings from Oct 1, 2013 to Sep 30, 2014, and their visibility on print, television and internet.

The list not only revolves around actors, television stars but even sportspersons, authors, film directors, music directors, singers and comedians.

At the second spot is megastar Amitabh Bachchan, while cricketer MS Dhoni and actor Akshay Kumar occupy the fourth and fifth position. The top five in the list dominate the earnings sweepstakes, accounting for as much as 35 per cent of the total revenues of the top 100.

Salman's estimated earnings in 2014 are Rs. 244.50 crore, Amitabh amassed Rs. 196.75 crore, Shah Rukh minted Rs.202.40 crore, Dhoni pulled in Rs. 141.80 crore and Akshay Rs. 172 crore.

Despite a quiet year, Shah Rukh's earnings can be attributed to his brand value and endorsements. With 22 such deals in hand, he has endorsed the highest number of brands this year.

Los Angeles, Jul 1: Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan and costume designer Neeta Lulla are among the 819 artistes and executives who have received invitations to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

Bhatt's last movie, the Zoya Akhtar-directed Gully Boy was India's official entry for best international feature category at the 2019 Oscars. However, the film had failed to make it to the final five.

Other prominent Indian names to receive invitations are casting director Nandini Shrikent, documentary filmmakers Nishtha Jain, Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal.

In a statement, the Academy said the new invitees include 36 per cent of people of colour and 45 per cent women. Artistes from 68 countries have been invited as members.

Those who accept the invitation will have voting rights at the 93rd Academy Awards, scheduled to be held on April 25, 2021.

"The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travellers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now," Academy President David Rubin said.

The Academy has been actively working to introduce more diversity in its voting to avoid a controversy like 2016 when the Oscars were dubbed "white" for failing to recognise talents of colour.

The 2020 batch boasts of major Hollywood names like Cynthia Erivo, John David Washington, Constance Wu, Zazie Beetz, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Awkwafina, Yalitza Aparicio, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas, Adele Haenel, Thomasin McKenzie, Olivia Wilde and others.

The stars of multiple Oscar-winning South Korean movie Parasite -- Jang Hye-Jin, Jo Yeo-Jeong, Park So-Dam and Lee Jung-Eun -- are among the invitees.

Directors Lulu Wang, Ari Aster, Terence Davies, Matthew Vaughn, Robert Eggers, Matt Reeves, Alma Har’el are on the list as well.

The Academy has announced a new five-year plan that includes implementing inclusion standards for nominees.

"We take great pride in the strides we have made in exceeding our initial inclusion goals set back in 2016, but acknowledge the road ahead is a long one.  We are committed to staying the course.

"We look forward to continuing to foster an Academy that reflects the world around us in our membership, our programs, our new Museum, and in our awards," Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said.

In 2019, the organisation had invited 842 new members which included Indian names such as filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and veteran actor Anupam Kher.

"Tu bhul gaya woh time jab tu mere ghar pe aake… ‘bhai bhai meri album kar do. Bhai 'Deewana' kar do. Bhai, Smita Thackeray se milwa do, Bal Thackeray se milwa do. Abu Salem se bacha lo. Abu Salem galiyaan de raha hai'... yaad hai na? Yaad hai ki nahi yeh sab cheezein? Main tujhe keh raha hoon mere muh mat lagna ab tu bas. (Do you remember the time when you used to come to my home requesting me… ‘brother record an album for me. Brother, record Deewana for me. Brother, introduce me to Smita Thackeray and Bal Thackeray. Save me from Abu Salem. Abu Salem is abusing me'… do you remember? Don't mess with me, I am warning you)."

"Marina Cover yaad hai na? Woh kyon boli, woh kyon back out kiya yeh mujhe nahi pata. Media ko pata hai mafia kis tarah function karta hai. Uska video mere paas padha hai. Ab agar tune mere se panga liya, toh woh video main apni YouTube channel mein dal dunga. Samjha? Mere mooh mat lagna (Do you remember Marina Cover? I don't know no why they spoke and why they backed out, but media knows how the mafia functions. I still have that video with me. Now if you mess with me, I will upload that video on my YouTube channel. So don't mess with me)."
