Sangh Parivar activists attack Muslim college principal during I-Day celebration

Hyderabad, Aug 16: In a shocking incident, a group of miscreants belonging to RSS and ABVP allegedly attacked the principal of a government college in Telangana's Nizamabad during flag hoisting on India’s 71st Independence Day.

The miscreants shouted slogans against the principal Mohammed Yakeen asking him to remove his shoes during the flag hoisting. When Yakeen tried to convince the miscreants that removing footwear during flag hoisting was not protocol, they heckled and thrashed him.

Meanwhile, the college authorities have written to the chief minister, seeking arrest of the attackers.

The incident has shocked many and lodging a strong protest Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) demanded immediate action against all those involved in the incident.

The entire incident as shot on a mobile camera. The video shows several people hurling abuses and chanting slogans and pushing Mohammad Yakeen, while he was calmly trying to address them.

Meanwhile, the Nizamabad police has booked a case under 290 (Punishment for public nuisance), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language) and others against unknown people and investing.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday asked the state chief secretary to take necessary steps in view of the rising rainfall in the state and gave instructions for releasing Rs 50 crore for emergencies.

"CM BS Yediyurappa has instructed Chief Secretary to take appropriate precautions in view of the rise in rainfall activity across the state. CM advised Chief Secretary to keep in touch with district officials and instructed to release Rs 50 crores for emergencies," an official release said.

India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in a number of districts in the state.

CS Patil, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru said that red alert has been announced in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chickamagalur, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan due to heavy rainfall in the region from last two-three days.

Mangaluru, Mar 23: People in Thukkottu and Ullal area of Mangaluru are in panic after a local woman who recently returned from a foreign country fell ill.

On receiving information the health officials from Ullal PHC visited the house of the woman, who is suffering from fever and cold. They provided her medicines and asked her to remain quarantined at home.

It is said that the woman's mother, who had come to a grocery shop near Thokkottu, informed the shopkeeper that her daughter, who had returned from abroad, was suffering from fever.

The alert shopkeeper, understanding the gravity of the situation, informed ZP Standing Committee on Health and Education President Dhanalakshmi Gatti, who in turn brought the issue to the notice of health officials.

The health officials rushed to her house and diagnosed her. However, the authorities have requested the local people not to be panicked as it is not yet confirmed whether the woman is suffering from COVID-19 caused by the novel coronavirus.

Bengaluru, Apr 20: Close on the heels of the Padarayanapura vandalism, Karnataka Cabinet on Monday decided to promulgate an ordinance that gives special powers to implementing authority and also provide protection to frontline health workers.

Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting here, Minister for Law J C Madhuswamy said that the ordinance will be on the lines of one promulgated by Kerala and Uttar Pradesh governments.

“Through the ordinance, a State Epidemic Act will be enacted to protect health workers and any non-cooperation will be punishable. Also, any attempt to deliberately spread the disease or float rumours will attract action,” he added.
