Shabana Azmi to Star in Steven Spielberg’s Web Series ‘Halo’

Los Angeles, Aug 5: Veteran Indian actor Shabana Azmi has boarded the cast of Showtime series "Halo" to be produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.

The series, which will begin production later this year in Budapest, will be directed by Otto Bathurst.

An adaptation of the megahit video game of the same name, "Halo" also features Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, and Kate Kennedy, reported Variety.

McElhone will star as two characters: Dr.Catherine Halsey, the creator of the Spartan supersoldiers, and Cortana, the most advanced AI in human history, while Woodbine will essay the role of Soren-066.

Azmi will be seen playing Admiral Margaret Parangosky, the head of the Office of Naval Intelligence.

In the past, the 68-year-old actor has been a part of international projects like "Madame Sousatzka", "La Nuit Bengali", "City of Joy" and "Son of Pink Panther".

She has also starred in TV shows like "Banglatown Banquet", "Capital" and "Next Of Kin" a six-part series.

"Halo" is produced by Showtime in collaboration with 343 Industries and Amblin Television.

Mumbai, Jan 18: Actor Shabana Azmi was injured in an accident on Saturday afternoon on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra's Raigad district, an official said.

The incident took place around 3.30 pm near Khalapur, over 60 km from Mumbai, when the car in which she was traveling rammed into a truck, said Raigad Superintendent of Police Anil Paraskar.

She was rushed to MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai and was undergoing treatment, he said.

Mumbai, Jun 24: Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan has been admitted to a hospital here after she complained of breathing problems.

According to a source close to her family, the 71-year old choreographer was rushed to Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra on Saturday.

Following her hospitalisation, a mandatory Covid-19 test was done, which turned out to be negative.

"She is fine now and recovering. She had breathing issues and was taken to hospital for that. Her Covid test was done which turned out negative. She doesn't have any symptoms. She is likely to be discharged in a day or two," the source told PTI.

In a career spanning over four decades, Khan is credited with choreographing more than 2,000 songs.

The three-time National Award winner has choreographed for some of the most memorable tracks, including "Dola Re Dola" from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Devdas", "Ek Do Teen" from Madhuri Dixit-starrer "Tezaab" and "Ye Ishq Haaye" from "Jab We Met" in 2007.

She last choreographed for "Tabaah Hogaye", featuring Madhuri from filmmaker Karan Johar's production "Kalank" in 2019.

Mumbai, Jul 8: Veteran Actor-comedian Jagdeep, best known for his role as Soorma Bhopali in "Sholay", died on Wednesday at his residence. He was 81.

The actor, whose real name is Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, was not keeping well. "He passed away at 8: 30 pm at his residence in Bandra. He was not keeping well due to age related issues," producer Mehmood Ali, a close family friend, told news agency.

Jagdeep appeared in around 400 films but it is his role as Soorma Bhopali in 1975 film "Sholay" that is etched in audiences' minds even today. He also played memorable roles in "Purana Mandir" and in "Andaz Apna Apna" as Salman Khan's father.

Better known by his stage name Jagdeep, the actor also directed the movie "Soorma Bhopali" with his character as the protagonist. He is survived by two sons - Javed and Naved.
