Shah Rukh Khan: My Remarks on Intolerance Have Been Misconstrued

kolkata, Dec 23: More than a month after the controversy over his remarks on intolerance, actor Shah Rukh Khan, today said that his comments were "misconstrued" and that he did not say anything for which he should apologise.

srk"What I want to say, I speak. But lot of things I say are misconstrued, perhaps mispresented, and perhaps misinterpreted sometimes," he told the media in Kolkata.

"I have not said anything for which I should apologise. I am not in a stage or age that I need to clarify. People know me. Perhaps they did not understand what I said," he added.

On November 2, when the actor turned 50, he added his voice to growing protests by the civil society over what they called the climate of intolerance.

"Religious intolerance, or intolerance of any kind, is the worst thing and will take us to the dark ages," he had told NDTV during an exclusive interview.

He had also come out in support of the artistes and writers who have returned awards to defend creative freedom, but said he that would rather would choose a different form of protest, like a march or a strike.

Following the interview, he was attacked by several BJP leaders, including BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, who said in a series of tweets that though the actor lives in India, his heart was in Pakistan.

The leaders' comments had drawn severe criticism from their party, the BJP. Opposition leaders and ally Shiv Sena backed the actor.

Today, replying to a question about the reports on demonstrations and halting of the screening of his film Dilwale in some areas, Mr Khan said, "For 25 years, I have been bestowed with unconditional love and affection. So, if now I get messages on social media, if my film is stopped in theatres, I feel extremely sad."

Recently, actor Aamir Khan, who had also stepped into the intolerance debate, drawing barbs from various quarters.

Mumbai, Aug 7: Bhojpuri actress Anupama Pathak has died allegedly by suicide in Dahisar East, her Mumbai residence on August 2.

The police have recovered a suicide note.

Initially, an accidental death case was registered which was later converted into FIR under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC against a person and a company, the police said.

Further investigation by Mumbai's Kashimira Police is underway.

Mumbai, Jun 15: Maharashtra police's cyber department has asked people to refrain from circulating online pictures of the body of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found hanging in his apartment in Mumbai's Bandra area.

Terming it as a "disturbing trend", it warned that circulation of such pictures could attract legal action.

Rajput, 34, was found hanging in his apartment on Sunday, sending shockwaves rippling through the Hindi film industry and elsewhere.

Later, some people circulated pictures of the actor's body on social media platforms, following which the state police's cyber department said it was in "bad taste".

A disturbing trend has been observed on Social Media platforms by Maharashtra Cyber that pictures of deceased actor Sushant Singh Rajput are being circulated, which are disturbing and in bad taste," it tweeted late Sunday night.

"It is emphasised that circulation of such pictures is against legal guidelines and court directions, and are liable to invite legal action," it added.

Urging netizens to refrain from posting such photos, the cyber department said the pictures already circulated should be deleted henceforth.

"In the digital age, every piece of information we read or watch needs to be cross-checked, verified and we all have to be careful before believing or forwarding them," it said.

After the actor's death, police said no note was found at the spot.

Police sources also said they did not find any foul play in their initial investigation.

Kochi, Feb 7: The younger brother of noted playback singer K J Yesudas was found dead in the backwaters near here, police said.

The body of 62-year old K J Justin, who had reportedly gone missing from his house in Thrikkakara near here on Tuesday evening was found floating in the backwaters near Vallarpadam Container Terminal on Wednesday, they said.

The relatives identified the body, police said adding it was later sent for autopsy at General Hospital here.

A General Hospital spokesperson said the body was handed over to his relatives on Thursday evening after autopsy was performed.

The funeral is expected to be held after the arrival of Yesudas from abroad, police sources said.

Police said the initial investigation suggested it was a case of suicide.

According to police, Jusin's relatives have informed the investigation team that he had been showing signs of suicidal tendency for the last one week as he was allegedly facing some financial problem.

His relatives were not available for comments.

Son of the renowned musician late Augustine Joseph, Justin is survived by his wife.

Justin had been a regular presence at popular ganamela programmes here in the past, sources said.
